Keith had some great factual talking points for Obama's surrogates. When asked why hasn't Barack *closed the deal*? answer that in EVERY SINGLE primary/caucus Clinton's numbers start out high and go down whereas Obama's numbers only climb. Hmmmmm. Who has the electability (I really despise that term)problem? The more time people get to know Hillary up close and personal - her numbers tend to plummet.
NYT will have an article out tomorrow with the *news* that yes, Barack can do as well as Clinton in the so-called big states.
LOL! She must have crossed to many lines with the Times.

As much as I'm pissed at Hillary's behavior, I'd for for her in a second over McCain...I've gotta believe she wouldn't veto legislation put on her desk by a Democratic majority.
Solved me dilemma I think...talked with a bunch of other fishermen and we're kinda taking the kid under our wings. I gave him an old pole that was one of me kids, an old tackle box with stuff but with a stipulation...he has to leave so he's home by dark. I'm no fuddy duddy when it comes to letting kids be kids but down by the rr tracks at a deserted mill is no place for an 11 yr. old at dark and then riding the streets in the dark on a bike w/no lights...I have a problem with this.
He caught his first walleye (19-1/2") on his new old pole and released it because it was a female full of eggs. I suppose I could just say not my problem and read the obit at a later date but the kid's hooked on fishing...better than drugs eh?

I was trying to watch Larry King and got disgusted. First he had softball Richardson and a****** Carville which was a waste of time. Richardson smiled while Carville spread Hillaryisms. Then Larry had a 'panel' LOL. Carville plus Begala plus some dude from my home state of Florida and some black guy that must have supposedly been representing Barack's point of view - racist of me I know, but surely he had at least ONE Barack person. What a joke. I think the MSM has begun the Howardization of Barack. I think Barack will lose in Indiana. I think there are a LOT of rednecks in North Carolina - I should know I went to college there. So he may get upset there too. But HEY -- Clinton/Obama is sounding better and better if you look at what's in the WH now.
I watched the rest of "Dresden" tonight. It was pretty good. It was the story of the bombing of Dresden wrapped around a love story about a Dresden girl and a shot down Brit with German born parents. There was a lot of 'disaster' details at the end and I learned a couple of new things about the bombing, like about delayed action bombs the allies dropped. The movie was wrapped around the Frauenkirche which was a little contrived but very appropriate. Highly recommended for WWII or German buffs. Also there wasn't even a hint of anti-American/anti-Brit bias in the made in Germany movie. Just lots of anti-war.
Gee Phil...thanks but it was more of a FATHERLY thing. I did some research on the kid in the past few days and this was the best option I could come up with. He's got about 10 dads now with rules to follow. He's the product of a teenage pregnancy...living with his grandmother.
I sent the Obama campaign 25 bucks in response to his e-mail. I really can't spare it right now, but I really can't refuse to send it either. I can't pony up the way I did when Howard was running, but I'm doing my best to put my money where my mouth is.
Not only do I agree with John Stewart, but believe it or not I have said similar things myself: Clinton will continue to campaign long after Obama takes his oath of office and establishes residency in the White House.

TORONTO — Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says he hopes a new ban on the sale and use of lawn and garden pesticides will allow children to again roll around on the grass.
"Our generation has taken to the cosmetic use of pesticides and I think, perhaps unwittingly, not fully understanding the dangers it represents to ourselves and, most importantly, to our children," he told a news conference in the back yard of a mid-Toronto home.

That's what happens when the State is responsible of medical care. It looks for ways to lower the long term cost. It bans the use of things that cause cancer. Corporate industry and the insurance industry are too integrated and too afraid of liability concerns by admitting harm from such things by promoting their banning.

I get the impression from reading impeachment articles on OpEdNews that many of you believe that if we could achieve the impeachment of Cheney or Bush that it would improve our standing in the international community tremendously. We agree and also do not think we will ever begin to control the war mongers in either party unless we cause one to be impeached very soon, before the November election.
And why haven't we caused impeachment?
We've marched, protested, fasted, are holding strikes, vigils, sit-ins, die-ins and god knows what else to no avail whatsoever as long as Congress ignores us. The media, wanting access and good treatment from Congress, will also ignore us as long as Congress does.
What can we do that is different and radical enough to get action by Congress? Perhaps realizing that Congress itself is the current clear and present danger to the Constitution will help. If Congress takes an oath to defend the Constitution and does not, it is the enemy of both the Constitution and the people. I am not proposing rebellion, but how are we to get their attention?
In Colorado we have done over 110 impeachment events in 14 months, all of which have been ignored by our Colorado Congressmen. We have tried to learn from that and come up with a plan that could cause our Congressmen to pay attention.
Our conclusion was that we need to find the Democratic Congressmen who are running for re-election or for the Senate and are in tight races and campaign against them primarily on the point that they are a traitor to their oath when they do not rise to the defense of the Constitution and call for Impeachment Hearings. If they won't defend the Constitution they probably won't do a good job of defending the rights of the voters. You get the idea. We are campaigning against Rep. Udall using harsh language. We also say he is betraying and diminishing the power of Congress itself if he does not defend it against the executive branch.
The people who maintain Obama could lose the general because of racism don't seem to be addressing misogynistic bigotry, which also exists.
Per my post last thread, if we analyze the self-declared Pennsylvanians who said race mattered to them and they would not vote for Obama, one could conclude that if Obama were white Hillary's margin would be around 2%.
But since the exit pollers never asked the opposite germane question, which is, "Does gender matter and would you vote for a woman?" we have no idea at all to what extent Obama benefited from the misogyny vote.
Maybe they cancel each other out. Or maybe there are many more misogynists out there to make a problem for Hillary in the general than racists to make a problem for Obama. We just don't know because no one is asking the question -- which just shows the extent to which even latent racism permeates our society.

Hillary Clinton should end her bid for the White House. Obama should offer her the Vice Presidency. Clinton should accept the offer. It would be a bitter pill for both to swallow but it is what both the Democratic Party and the American nation desperately needs. Neither Clinton nor Obama should place their personal ambition, pride or emotions ahead of the needs of the American people.
Clinton won a big victory in Pennsylvania but the election was tainted by the highly negative campaign and by serious election equipment and logistical flaws. At this point, she could easily withdraw with honor. Clinton is certainly not responsible for the defective voting equipment or the thousands of Republicans who switched their registrations in Pennsylvania to Democratic but were denied their right to cast even provisional ballots.
Brad Friedman of Brad Blog predicted in advance on his website and in an interview broadcast on my Democratic Talk Radio show that the election process in Pennsylvania was going to be a disaster logistically. He told our listening audience in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (WGPA SUNNY 1100AM) and our Internet audience that after the problems arose that the type of voting machines used in Pennsylvania made it impossible to fix errors likely to arise. The voting machines used made it impossible to verify the count or audit the results. Pennsylvania election laws and processes tainted Clinton’s victory through no fault of her own.
This writer believes she won big in Pennsylvania but the voting process was so bad that many voters will always doubt the size of that victory.

A solution to outrageous gasoline and resulting product price increases.

All I hear in the news these days are reports of world wide consumer complaints about rising gasoline and food prices. However, I haven't heard one word from anyone offering any ideas as to what to realistically do about it.The solution to this problem is to drastically drop the world price of a barrel of crude. The United States has the power to drop the price of crude by 50% in a matter of hours if we chose to do so.
What the U.S. Government needs to do is to announce that it will begin an immediate mandatory gas rationing plan for all 50 states. This plan should mandate an odd and even license plate number for purchase of gasoline on selected days of the week.
Such a rationing plan, just by the U.S. alone, would, “in my opinion”, drop crude oil prices on the world market by 50% within hours of the announcement and by much more in the following weeks.
America has the power to roll back the price of crude and in turn drastically reduce resulting price increases such as food and other oil related items any time it wants to. It just depends on whether the two Oil Men in The White House are willing to do what’s right for the World Economy.

The war in Iraq is an unpopular as ever, gas prices just hit a record of $3.51, stores are running out of food ("and I ain't lyin"*), so you would think that the candidate of the party that's been in power during this fiasco would be losing by 15 points or so in the polls right now, even if were a decorated war hero. But in fact, John McCain runs neck and neck in the polls with the Democrats, maybe even slightly better against Barack Obama.
Here's what an unnamed GOP strategist told the Politico's Roger Simon tonight:
The Republican shook his head. “You’re missing the most important one,” he said. “Race. McCain runs against Barack Obama and the race vote is worth maybe 15 percent to McCain.”
Simon says that, sadly, a new AP poll suggests he may be right:
How big is that percentage? An AP-Yahoo poll conducted April 2-14 found that “about 8 percent of whites would be uncomfortable voting for a black for president.”
I don’t know if 8 percent sounds high or low to you, but I was amazed that 8 percent of respondents were willing to admit this to a pollster. And I figure that the true figure is much higher.
The same poll, by the way, found that 15 percent of voters think Obama is a Muslim. He is, in fact, a Christian. But thinking a person is a Muslim probably does not encourage you to vote for him in America today.

I'm more optimistic -- the way I interpret those numbers, that means that 7 percent of Americans would consider voting for a black Muslim for president...just kidding. The sad truth is that some racism in America is going to be with us for a long time. Returning the Golan Heights to Syria is not a popular concept in Israel
Israel has passed a message to Syria that it would withdraw from the Golan Heights in return for peace, according to a Syrian government minister.
The expatriates minister, Buthaina Shaaban, said the message had been passed on by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
She said Mr Erdogan had informed the Syrian President Bashar Assad of the offer by telephone on Tuesday morning.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has declined to comment.
Israel and Syria remain technically at war although both sides have recently spoken of their desire for peace.
The Syrian government has insisted that peace talks can be resumed only on the basis of Israel returning the Golan Heights, which it seized in 1967.
Israeli authorities, for their part, have demanded that Syria abandon its support for Palestinian and Lebanese militant groups before any agreement.
The last peace talks between the two countries broke down in 2000.

The Low Road to Victory
The Pennsylvania campaign, which produced yet another inconclusive result on Tuesday, was even meaner, more vacuous, more desperate, and more filled with pandering than the mean, vacuous, desperate, pander-filled contests that preceded it.
Voters are getting tired of it; it is demeaning the political process; and it does not work. It is past time for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to acknowledge that the negativity, for which she is mostly responsible, does nothing but harm to her, her opponent, her party and the 2008 election....

...The Democrats are growing ever more desperate about the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. With gas prices out of control, with the comically oblivious President Bush shimmying around New Orleans — the city he let drown — and Condi sneaking into Baghdad as rockets and mortars hail down on the Green Zone, beating the Republicans should be a cinch.
But the Democrats watch in horror as Hillary continues to scratch up the once silvery sheen on Obama, and as John McCain not only consolidates his own party but encroaches on theirs by boldly venturing into Selma, Ala., on Monday to woo black voters....
