Trust Me Now
Slate has a rundown of recent comments from some of Wall Street's biggest players about the credit crisis:
Somebody must be giving out Magic 8 Balls on Wall Street, because playing soothsayer is all the rage these days. Still trudging through the credit crisis, the bigwigs at several of the country's most important banks are saying that our long national nightmare is over—the credit crisis's end is nigh.
But what I found so interesting was this:
Maybe it is, but it's a curious time to start trusting these prognosticators. These are the same executives who got blindsided by the credit crunch, and when they failed to warn their companies (and the country) that the sky was about to fall on Wall Street, they lost their rights to the benefit of the doubt. They are the boys who failed to cry wolf: They didn't say anything before failed mortgage- and asset-backed securities arrived to devour the markets, so now they've lost the credibility to be listened to seriously.
When I first read it, I immediately thought of President Bush, his cronies, and the War in Iraq. We were wrong then, but we are right now.

"We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel's destruction," Obama said.
"We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist, and abide by past agreements."
===================================
I agree 100%. Go Barack!
==================================
Yea, "go" for the campaign. Obama would like to say that Israel needs to recognize the Palestinine's right to exist, but he has to win the GE first.
the Palestinine's right to exist = Palestine's right to exist
Howard is available, so no need to worry. Just seek and you shall find.
The Debate on the abc network (small characters intended) is not the best for Barack - from what I have seen.
the debate is an attack on Obama by ABC but he is doing quite well
"ladders of opportunity" is a good turn of a phrase by Obama
Gotcha, Gotcha, Gotcha is all these questions are seeking.
Charlie and Stephie seem to be angling for gigs at Fox.
Hillary is in her element with abc. Barack is not the most able with false logic.
"let's affirmatively invest in our young people" Clinton has a good retort
"the only way to decrease gas prices is to reduce demand" increase CAFE and Obama embraces the Apollo Project for alternative energy $150 billion over ten years
George S. doesn't have a clue that we are FED UP with that politics as game bull shIt, Hillary lowered herself to go along with the set up
shre actually does quite well representing Democratic Party ideals when talking about things like predatory student loans
had she never taken the low road she might still be in this race
Seems Clinton was informed by her puppy dog Stephy what questions would be asked.
Also Hannity feed Stephy what questions to ask.
Yesterday Stephanopoulos was begged by Sean Hannity of FOX to raise the Bill Ayers issue..

"...and I need some help...together we are going to ...(wait for it)...take back our country" ~~ Sen HillClinton
I should add - she got it from abc (slight intended)
IMHO the telling part of the debate (hack job) was when Obama stood up for Clinton about Bosnia.
He did not take their bait. He kept to the high road.
Clinton IMHO has no shame.
WE need a transcript of Sen Obama's last, closing remarks, because they speak to us, here, at BFA.
GEEZ, abc didn't waste a minute going to advertisement.
I've gone to MSNBC (folks go there because Kieth is LIVE).
MSNBC saying Barack did not have a good night (i agree).
ABC to their credit did manage to bring up every single negative that has ever surfaced against Obama in the last 15 months so you have to admit they were thorough in their research.
it will be nice if they would now turn that spotlight on McCain with his arm around that nutcase preacher in Texas or his wife's ties to the Keating Five
Obama did quite well considering it was a one sided hit job
What was it that just happened? Was the audience calling out because they didn't like Jake Tapper's meen & bittah summary?
-- volney
Lol. Andrew Sullivan on his blog posted his pet snake would have been a better moderator.
Clinton was ill served going along with the hit job. the reason she won't get the chance to argue her case with super delegates is her willingness to use Republican talking points
Har! Obama swarmed by autograph seekers, Hillary reaching for someone's hand just to look like she had something going on.

Phil Specht said,
"George S. doesn't have a clue that we are FED UP with that politics as game bull shIt, Hillary..."
< are you from a small town, Phil? You are almost bitter.

...You said I must eat so many lemons
'cause i am so bitter.
I said
"I'd rather be with your friends mate 'cause they are much fitter."

ABC actually made a very forceful case for Obama's main point all along that we have to transcend politics as usual, but it wasn't their intent.
Obama will gain in the polls.
he got across where he is coming from
Actually, I thought Obama had a fine night. The overall impression is that there's not a ton of difference between their platforms and therefore we can decide on other factors like honesty and transparency.
Hillary has behaved like a Class A Beeyotch through this whole experience, as has her husband. She's meen & bittah, Obama is not.
She did have a few funny lines, I'll give her that. But that's all I'll give her other than a wave goodbye.

people like George and Charlie who make well over $250,000 a year sure are nervous about losing the Bush tax cuts aren't they?
I liked both Obama and Clinton answers on that point.
wave goodbye
Craft a lot of good Democratic Legislation in the Senate, while you're there, Hill! Love ya, ::smooch::
Sign it, if it's good, Pres Barack "yo' Mama" Obama.
people like George and Charlie who make well over $250,000 a year sure are nervous about losing the Bush tax cuts aren't they?
< they are so vain, but heck (oops, I need a V-8) ...pure self interest
paine
I think you might be right that when Hillary gives up the team and the dream of the White House she might become a d*mn good Democratic Senator from NY and cut the posturing and go for real solutions that Obama is leading from the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue
If so, Phil, that is a powerful relationship, which WE need to nurture.
Clinton's best answer of the night was the question on leaving Iraq, and I'm glad the two didn't disagree
Hillary might get off her ample posterior and do something in the Senate if she decides to go for Majority Leader instead.
It would have to be a promise of power and glory to get her to do anything much. Lord knows her record so far has been less than impressive.
I agree that Charlie and George were really defensive about those poor, suffering folks getting $100-$250k.
They don't have a freakin' clue.

at some level of course Hillary deserves personal responsibility for going along with the notion that tearing down Obama is her best shot at winning
my take is that is the single decision that has lead to her defeat, since this is a change election and that is so same old same old politics
must be a little hard to take to know it could have been
I hope she doen't get bitter
Clinton's best answer of the night was the question on leaving Iraq

It was an almost amazing moment, for me, as I thought many Progressives here would be stunned as they pondered here positions over the last 6 years.
Kennedy became a very good Senator after he lost his Presidential bid. Kerry is making some good votes too.
I wish on the Iran question Obama had made the point that Iran is a problem today because Clinton et al decided to push the Iraq domino 5 years ago.
Saddam Hussein did a lot of things but one of the more useful ones was being a threat to his Shia nieghbors. But no, no, we had to push the first domino, didn't we Hilly???
I might be favorably disposed to contribute to Hill's next run for the Senate even though I have no dog in a NY race.
Barack could toss the hard asses a bone and wear a flag lapel-pin, yup.
Clinton should just start saving up and quit spending on a losing effort paine, but if she would attack McCain on her way out the door it might be useful.
Hillary didn't have a flag pin on either, paine.
I was watching for the DFA commercial on condimustgo.com and it never came but right at the end after Tapper I think there was 30 seconds (I counted) of black silence on my TV. I was set to cry foul ala CBS blackout in Alabama of the Seigelman story, but then I went back and read the fine print on the KOS diary and it said ABC had agreed to air it IN PHILA (not whole USA). Did anyone happen to see it in PHILA? or perhaps it WAS a blackout???
And the whole D thing was an attempt to bring down Obama - I think he survived very well considering. I was also struck by how the entire audience was in b & w except for darling Chelsea (and Gen Clark) in living color. Didn't Obama have any supporters there? What a hatchet job.
I don't think it will matter - I think the country and PENN have already made up their minds and it's not for Hillary.
I just mean - to diffuse the issue - he might be seen (more, and more, often) with a flag lapel-pin.
No harm, no foul.
if he put on a flag pin the next thing noted was that he didn't have one of those Chinese made yellow ribbon support our troops magnets on his family sedan
you aren't a patriotic American until you fly an American flag made in China
The debate starts here in 15 minutes on the West Coast.
Talked to someone today on the phone asking for contributions for Veterans. Got into a nice talk. Says "at least we know Hillary" I told him that Obama's only problem is getting people to know him. Once they do, they like him.
Watched some of the debate, the tail end...glad I didn't sit through the whole thing. If selling your soul to the CM is what it takes to make $100K-$250K...count me out!
Says "at least we know Hillary" I told him that Obama's only problem is getting people to know him. Once they do, they like him.

Good on you, Fred.
Did anyone notice Ed Rendell to the left of Chelsea, slumped down and looking glum?
He's not my governor so maybe he always sits like that but I found it interesting.

Flag pin represents bush's middle-finger salute to the rest of the world!
Barack "your Mama" Obama
haha
I don't know w/not I have seen that before,
but if YOU sense that the audience you are speaking to
might have been at one time (or presently)
inclined to find resonance in "barack Osama 'bama,"
then use that^ phrase! You might be wide-eyed at the stillness of your audience! LOL
Test market it (if you remember).
Flag pin represents bush's middle-finger salute to the rest of the world!
To you Karen (BTW The Celts will slam the Pistons), maybe. But the FLAG lapel-pin (and other lapel-pins) are worn with pride by men who wear suits of sport-coats. They vote, and Obama needs to solicit their vote. Barack needs every vote.

Clinton-Obama Debate: ABC Decides Top Issues Facing Americans Are Verbal Gaffes, Flag Pins and '60s Radicals
By Greg Mitchell

NEW YORK In perhaps the most embarrassing performance by the media in a major presidential debate this year, ABC News hosts Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolous focused mainly on trivial issues as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama faced off in Philadelphia.
Did anyone notice Ed Rendell to the left of Chelsea, slumped down and looking glum?
<
No, and I think it was because I was looking at Chelsea and thinking she was as gassed about current-events as you and I.
I can't believe anyone is going to judge who to vote for because of a flag pin. It is a non-issue. By the way Clinton's lap dog didn't have on a flag pin.
rae, paine might be right about the flag pin for some. A life long Democrat and WWII veteran who lives in town and always puts signs in his yard wouldn't put an Obama sign up when I stopped by. His number one reason was because Obama wouldn't wear a flag pin...not a big deal to me one way or the other but a big deal to this guy.
can't believe anyone is going to judge who to vote for because of a flag pin. It is a non-issue.
TO YOU! and me, but it is a very, very significant issue for mant swing-voters.
What to do? Ignore - take the high road?
I say act. What would Arjuna do?

Danny DFA HQ -- in the morning can you check if the condimustgo.com ad (which DFA cosponsors) was actually run on ABC? I got 30 seconds of black silence here right at the end of the broadcast. Was it only to run in Philly? I'm not waiting up for an answer but I'll stop by in the morning. Hope you can find out something. Thanks.
Wishful thinking, but I hope the media picks up on Hillary's wanting to expand the Nato Umbrella. she now is moving her position to a massive response to any Iran expected aggression that would threaten Israel, including other ME countries. Whoa! she didn't mention going to Congress for permission either.
Aipac making rumblings about being nervous about Obama, and Hillary is the one who jumped higher.
I want to see the tape of her words played 700 times. It wouldn't hurt for the networks to hear from us. I'll certainly write tomorrow.
Paine~ I stand by my comment:
"Flag pin represents bush's middle-finger salute to the rest of the world!"
Glad I missed the debate. Sounds like George and Charlie tag teamed with Annie. Barack must be so darn ticked. I can't believe the questions they asked. WTF???? Apparently, ABC along with Annie Oakley tried to bury Barack tonight.
They vote, and Obama needs to solicit their vote. Barack needs every vote.
Agree, but he also needs to stand by his principles. That's what he's admired for. And if that means no flag pin, so be it.
