Is it a good thing or not that there are two people running against Pelosi. Shirley Golub, and Cindy Sheehan. One or both might be Ineys. How can this set up be most effective? Do we get luckier if the votes are split 3 ways?
Jo, I think Thankful might be otherwise occupied this season. . . . But I have heard to mention another. . . . some time
The thing about the blood-orange marmalade was the Linda was making it that summer before DeanFest II when we were all kinda liking each other. . . .

OBAMA'S FUNDING SOURCES
Sen. Barack Obama credits his presidential campaign with creating a "parallel public financing system" built on a wave of modest donations from homemakers and high school teachers. Small givers.
But those with wealth and power also have played a critical role in creating Obama's record-breaking fundraising machine, and their generosity has earned them a prominent voice in shaping his campaign. Seventy-nine "bundlers," five of them billionaires, have tapped their personal networks to raise at least $200,000 each. They have helped the campaign recruit more than 27,000 donors to write checks for $2,300, the maximum allowed. Donors who have given more than $200 account for about half of Obama's total haul, which stands at nearly $240 million.
Obama's success in assembling bundlers offers another perspective on a campaign that promotes itself as a grass-roots effort.

HuJo - lindab copied that from puddle's post last night - because she was wondering if she was the linda that puddle was referring to. I posted it in BOLD on the last thread - sorry you missed it,

lots of people seem to have difficulty with quotes that are indicated by a different font. perhaps they're not accustomed to using fonts as a formatting function.
When someone does a copy/paste, that's not considered writing.
Anyway, you may remember my astonishment at Petraeus
making reference to the 'Sopranos'
It turns out that it's one of his standard references; he tells the troops
to watch the Sopranos to understand Iraq. Which, I guess, is
progress. At least he's no longer thinking of them as 'towelheads.'

come on, it's a Friday (TGIF ?), where's the humor on this blog ? or the sports ?
(all work [ie. doom and gloom, he said/she said, etc.] and no play ...)
HuJo - read it already - it's half conjecture and half fact. do you really think that WE really believe that his untold millions ALL came from the little guy? did you read that ONE HALF, roughly$120,000,000 so far was from donations of less than $200? if you put his numbers beside Clinton's there is no comparison in their grassroots funding - he IS the grassroots candidate.

My bad.
I thought the quote was fine, whoever wrote it.
I am "lefter" and proud of it. If you take a global (rather than US) view, I'm probably "righter"
more on the bundling...
Among the group are businessmen such as Kenneth Griffin, a famously private 39-year-old billionaire who threw his support behind Obama's presidential campaign just as he hired a team of lobbyists to urge Congress to preserve a lucrative tax loophole.
A year ago, Griffin invited Obama to speak to employees of his Chicago hedge fund, Citadel Investment Group, and in subsequent months, employees and their families gave the candidate nearly $200,000. Griffin had previously backed Republicans, including Obama's initial U.S. Senate opponent.
Obama resisted Citadel's lobbying push, but a hedge fund executive who knows Griffin said he suspects Griffin's continued support owes to more than a desire to sway the senator on the tax issue. "Ken's a smart guy, and I guess he's done the math and decided that Barack is the best candidate," said Daniel Loeb, the chief executive of Third Point Management in New York.
good vid on street money, Monica - everyone should see this!
okay, done hogging the blog - y'all have a nice Friday afternoon!

This one's a glass half-full or half-empty situation. So BO is not wholly owned by big money, but half of him is.
So how does President Obama react when the grassroots agenda collides with that of the big donors, as it inevitably will.
I think we all know the answer to that one.............

With apologies to mainefem for the length - but can't link to my email I don't think - from True Majority:
Dear Ann,
It's been only 24 hours since we started our Condi Must Go campaign and thanks to you it's taken off. Already 22,793 of you signed our petition for Secretary of State Rice to resign for approving torture, and the media has turned its eye towards Condi. Now, we need to turn up the heat.
Next week, the eyes of the world will be on Pennsylvania as the Democratic and Republican primaries approach and the candidates debate. This is our chance to bring our campaign to the attention of the political establishment. Next week we will launch an advertising campaign in Pennsylvania with one simple message-- Condi Rice must resign as Secretary of State. But, we need your help.
Contribute $35 right to turn up the heat:
http://www.truemajority.org/CondiAd
Here's what The Nation had to say about our campaign yesterday:
Given these new revelations not only are Rice's chances of becoming a veep candidate blown out of the water--if there's any trace of decency left in a GOP headed by two torturers-in Chief, Bush & Cheney--but this news should also lead to demands that she resign as Secretary of State.
As True Majority puts it: "America needs a Secretary of State who can repair relations with countries around the world and stand up for human rights. Instead, we have a Secretary of State who chaired meetings on specific torture techniques. Our international reputation and moral standing are just the latest in the ever growing costs of this Administration's foreign policy".1
This is the moment of accountability. Do we let Condoleezza Rice off the hook for approving torture? Or do we send her away in shame like Alberto Gonzales before her? Together, we can make sure America makes the right choice.
Contribute $35 right now for a media buy in Pennsylvania:

Thanks for acting to reclaim America,

I don't really understand the racism, sexism and resentment against Oprah ? I still watch her show (what little I see of it, since I don't get home from work weekdays until 4:45 PM EDT, the last minutes of her show):

OPRAH WINFREY - WINFREY LOSES HER TALK SHOW TITLE
Talk show queen OPRAH WINFREY's
endorsement of presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA has damaged her popularity, according to polls.
...
since Winfrey pledged her support for Obama's White House Campaign last spring (07).
They claim 65 per cent of Americans looked upon her favourably three months after her announcement - and that figure dropped to 51 per cent after another four months.
Latest poll figures, compiled last month (Mar08), revealed that Winfrey has lost her status as America's favourite talk show host to Ellen DeGeneres
. Of the 1.35 million people asked which daytime host "made their day", 46 per cent said DeGeneres and only 19 per cent voted for Winfrey.

I'm sure she knew that was a possibility as did the Dixie Chicks with their denunciation of bush. I commend them for voicing their convictions.

Oprah probably knows that when Obama wins bigtime in November and she gets invited to the inaugeration, all her adoring fams will come back.
If they don't, Oprah has more money than God, could retire anytime, may agree that Ellen deserves top dog rating, and, after all is said and done, would endorse Obama again just as she did. It was a great effort to try to Take Our Country Back and she knows that the DLC-endorsed Clintons could not do that.

HuJo, re: think we all know the answer to that one.............
guess you didn't read my next post where the same article admitted that one of the 'big daddies' is still supporting him even tho Obama didn't approve the legislation he had been lobbying Congress for.
yes, pols are pols, but they aren't all the same. and $120 mil from donations under $200 is unheard of, my dear. that isn't a glass half full, that's the grassroots taking over the weeds. ;)
WUFT FM Gainesville FL Friday afternoon classical music trivia question: In 1987 Reagan signed a bill saying this march is the official march of the United States. Name the piece and its composer.

You should know by know that any "olde saying" is not part of Obama's life.

Thanks Karen and Joan for the Oprah feedback (both my wife and I couldn't understand the backlash from some of her now ex-viewers).
I've seen the Ellen show at times (I liked her comedy sitcom Ellen) but to be truthful, after coming home from a day's work, I like to see the laid-back professional talkshow style of Oprah's (and the variety of her show topics and guests is great).
Ellen's talk show IMO is like watching a female Robin Williams, just a little too much energy for me to relax and take in, without getting distracted -- more comedy than informative.

PA oldtimers are pi$$ed at Obama for refusing to hand out street money - good for him! he did that iin SC and he kicked butt. if he loses because of it, it's still a win for progressives and a new way of doing politics in PA. they mentioned the ungodly amount of money that Rangel handed out to get elected - so we can be pretty sure that Ms. Hillary is doling it out, if she has anything left to dole...
Good for Barack in refusing to hand out the street money. Imagine that, another politician with some scruples a la Dr. Dean.

But if we call Hillary by the name Senator Dole won't Elizabeth get upset ?
* rdorgan,
Very silly poll and news hype. Oprah helped boost Ellen's TV career from the comedy night club circuit. This is just more of Hollywood's Corporate media non-sense. Somebody has been reading too much of the Hollywood Star and the Nat'l Enquire down at their local Walgreen's. Female jealously always makes the Hollywood gossip columns and for good cafe street talk on Melrose Blvd.
