Recent Statement From Atty Gen MuKasey

Written by: Jeff Morris on Apr 6, 2008 3:54 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Kingston Democracy for America

   Last week, after a speech he made in San Francisco, Atty Gen MuKasey claimed that if the NSA warrant less wiretapping program was in place prior to 9-11 the attack could have been prevented.  Mukasey said that, prior to 9/11, the Bush administration knew of a telephone call made by an Al Qaeda Terrorist from what he called a "safe house in Afghanistan" to the U.S., but failed to monitor  that call? First the Bush administration ignored the August 2001 Intelligence briefing that stated "Bin Laden determined To Strike Inside The U.S". and now we learn they ignored this threat also. MuKasey's claim that if the FISA Courts hadn't required a warrant the attack could have been prevented doesn't hold water. It's another lie coming from our Justice Department. The fact is that prior to 9-11 the FISA courts allowed monitoring phone calls to the U.S coming from Foreign Countries WITHOUT requiring a warrant!

    If it wasn't for the persistence of the 9-11 widows (True American Patriots) we wouldn't even know the little we do know today about what happened that day. This helps to explain why the Bush administration fought so vehemently to block the formation of the 9-11 investigation committee right from the start. They did not want it revealed just how asleep at the wheel they were on these threats. Why is this phone call not mentioned anywhere in the 9-11 Commissions final report? Smoking gun here? Or did MuKasey make this story up and is only cheer-leading for this administrations attempt to grant retroactive immunity to the Telecoms for their part in the illegal domestic spying program. If the Telecoms aren't granted immunity they could be subject to lawsuits for their part in this spying program. This in turn would make the Bush administration subject to prosecution also.

   This is what's really at play here. Protect the Deciders in the White House from being prosecuted for their law breaking and Constitutional violations of the Fourth Amendment of The Bill Of Rights! Make no mistake about it. Our DOJ continues to be a politicized joke. MuKasey seems to be no better than his predecessor Gonzales was in upholding the laws of our land. As our nations supposed highest figure of the law he appears to just be a sequel to Gonzales. Meet The New Boss....Same As The Old Boss! Business as usual. The business of covering up this administrations illegal activities. We should all urge our elected officials to demand a thorough investigation of MuKasey's claim. He needs to testify under oath and if he doesn't tell the truth be subject to a criminal perjury charge himself. We need to get at the truth here. Considering how this Bush administration completely politicized our DOJ under Gonzales, we need to find out just who inside the U.S. was spied on, and why. Maybe You?.. Maybe Me!  What do you all out there think about this?

Annilow, I was just wondering if you have some sense of the percentage of self-described rednecks who are opera lovers. It would seem like a small subset, particularly when you throw into the description ardent gun rights supporters!

I think the Condi for Veep concept is terrifying. She does so well what matters in America -- she's good at LOOKIN' GOOD. Too bad she's so incompetent in being National Security Advisor or for that matter Secretary of State - all she does is fly over there and say "Israelis and Palestinians must get along" and they say "NO" and then she flies somewhere else. And my all time favorite was the Passport debacle -- if you wanted to travel and your passport was about to expire you were SOL!! The worst part is she will take away the black vote for Obama -- I'm not worried anymore about Hillary or McCain but Condi scares the H out of me.

Black voters aren't that shallow.

and Rice on the ticket might just keep the real racists home that would vote for McCain, I hope he picks her

if MuKasey can prove that allegation he should be the prime witness for impeachment

Hi Everyone,

I know this email is late, but you may want to tune in to ABC World News Tonight and/or Nightline, for fun with Don Blankenship and the WV Supreme Court.

Apparently Blankenship told the reporter from ABC news that he was liable to "get shot" pointing that camera in his face.

Good fun.  Don't miss it!

I'm running. Here is my ad in our convention booklet.

~~~~~~~~~~
Elect Phil Specht National Delegate for Barack Obama
Common sense combined with experience.
Phil Specht has insight gained from involvement, so will bring wisdom to deliberations in Denver with respect that has been earned.
As Chair of the State Association of County Chairs, as Chair of the State Platform Committee, and as a duly elected SCC representative of his Congressional District from two different Districts after census changes. A Presidential Elector for John Kerry and host of events for Clinton/Gore and Al Gore after they had won the nomination.He has volunteered time and again doing the grunt work of GOTV, lit drops, door knocking, organizing fund raisers.
His input has been valued by many State Chairs, and it was Phil that authored the Special Resolution which was our Party's official response to 9-11. He is respected by all of Iowa's unpledged delegates. Electing Phil will bring added counsel to Convention deliberations to nominate a Progressive candidate, for he has worked tirelessly for those causes. A farmer who fights for Labor, a man fighting for Equal Rights,  advocate for environmental causes and gay rights, civil rights, a champion for veterans and a voice for peace.
Barack Obama will be well served with Phil Specht working on his behalf in Denver and voting with a progressive voice on issues there.
There will be two male delegates for Obama elected from our Congressional District so it will be a competitive election, but if I try and fail this round I have another shot at being elected at the State Convention, rather than just the one spot there.
The downside is that I won't be coming to Deanfest if elected.
  Hey Phil,   # 13
                     Are you seriously running? Not sure if you're just kidding. If I lived in Iowa, I'd consider voting for you. I read better stuff on this DFA blog site than I do in most Newspapers. A lot of good thinkers here who almost always have something informative and worthwhile to say. Good Luck if you are running. Give me some of your input on this MuKasey statement. I'd like to know what other readers here think about his statement too.                    JM in NY
I consider 9-11 to be Exhibit One in the case for George W. Bush as worst President ever, as he was just as much the head of our security apparatus then as he is now, and so many of his actions are a reaction formation to his guilt for his failures leading up to that day.
Bush failed the nation prior to 9-11; and then betrayed our interests by attacking a country that had nothing to do with it, leading to bankruptcy and collapse of our currency, tens of thousands of casualties, loss of civil liberties, and a trashing of both our Constitution, and world respect. and that doesn't even count Katrina.
WORST PRESIDENT EVER
hands down, and McCain is running on stay the course
I don't think so
Phil...I wish you good luck on getting to Denver, you're a doer...not a politician. Isn't that what they want as a delegate?
We disagree on 9-11 though...Bush and his cronies had their eyes wide open, in fact I think his seat was damp in that school room...the look in his eyes was (oh, sh!t, they really did it).
I'm not one that thinks it was an inside job, but I do think they had agreed to wait for a terrorist attack to put into play their plans to attack Iraq, which were well formed and awaiting an excuse. The intense coverup was to keep that knowledge from coming out before the 04 election and it worked.
plenty of reason for MuKasey to be under oath on torture and the Yoo memo as well Jeff
I still believe an Impeachment hearing by Conyers is the appropriate start.
Phil
All that would be plausible if it weren't for facts that are easily viewed on youtube...first day accounts of secondary explosions, footage of a blown out lobby before the buildngs collapsed, fireman reports of small fires, WTC7 being constructed (tubular steel with massive central columns) to be as tall as WTCs 1 & 2 but stopped at 47 stories yet it collapsed from the center first...I could go on and on for pages but that's jmo...too many people just can't believe their lying eyes...lol
Good luck in Denver
there may have been a wider conspiracy than just crazed bombers, but I don't think it invoved the neo-cons who had their own nefarious objectives
someone also tipped al-Queda to the drill going on that day as providing cover and a delayed reaction
and the payout was a coverup as well
the gang has reason to be sitting in a cell house at the Hague anyway
Phil...the work you do is extremely neccesary and I might add that you do it extremely well, you're one of the ones in the trenches for democracy so to speak. How you do it all while running the farm and having a home life is beyond me. In the few years that I've been here, I've come to value your opinion on many issues...we'll just disagree on 9-11 however.
