Linked to groups: NJ for Democracy
The peace vigil Wednesday evening attracted over 50 people here in Red Bank.
It was a fine showing of a coalition of the willing -- to brave the rainy weather.
The UUC Social Action Committee, Monmouth for Democracy, MoveOn and another organizations were represented and the fact that more horns were tooted as cars drove by proves that this illegal war is not supported by Americans.
Thanks for coming out to support our troops.
Bring 'em home!

Hi puddle.
Have any of our Clinton supporters commented on James Carville's Good Friday comparison between Bill Richardson and Judas Iscariot ?
After spending Friday in Pennsylvania canvassing Lehigh College and a couple of other venues, I have made this comparison between the Clintons and George W. Bush's style of uniting :
Bush spoke of his base as "The haves and the have mores."
Clinton's base seems to me to be "Those with unquestioning loyalty - and those with more unquestioning loyalty".
And, as always . . . . . .
And Dean's fifty state strategy seems to have made a major impression on Barack Obama. His readiness to speak to all Americans ( as well as his coat tails ) will be very long indeed.
A rainy night in Connecticut did not seem to deter us on Wednesday - nor the enthusiasm of the drivers passing by for a friendly honk or a strong thumbs up.
Waiting for Barack Obama on TV here in S. Oregon. He's due to arrive any second at "Kids Unlimited" a community organization helping kids stay out of trouble, helping them do better in school, etc. He's due to start at 9:30 pt.
This is in Medford Oregon. Ticket were long sold, 1000 reserved, 1000 stand-in-line. There are about 700 people outside the building, trying to catch a glimpse, or get in.
Hillary has announced she will visit here too. Date not set.
I'm getting myself riled. If you add these shameful examples of regrettable conduct to the comments of Pres. Clinton, who implied that McCain and Clinton make a great, patriotic duo to run for the presidency, the whole Clinton campaign begins to take on this character that is antigonistic to the party base, while getting its support from the some of the most stalwart of its members.
Well, it's about time you got riled. The Clintons and their cohorts have been betraying the Democratic Party and its principles for over a decade.
Wyden is on. He's neutral on endorsement. Says he's into health care, and doesnt want to say which plan is better, by endorsing.
Have any of our Clinton supporters commented on James Carville's Good Friday comparison between Bill Richardson and Judas Iscariot ?
With The Clintons, it's always about The Clintons. And their attitude that politicians in the party owe them is probably a big reason why so many are eager to throw them under the bus now that a new leader for the party has emerged.

Take it with a grain of salt. Carville's always trying to be clever, like Rush Limbaugh.
Obama is outside - chatting with people who cannot get in.
Good morning!
How wonderful that Barack is visiting Oregon. I'm jealous :)
Bay Area college Republicans pull for McCain
Although young Democrats have dominated the spotlight this presidential election, helping to swell the ranks of new voters, college Republicans like DeWinter are just as impassioned about the 2008 presidential campaign. But instead of demanding a change of course from the Bush administration's policies, young Republicans remain adamant that the threat of terrorism is still the country's No. 1 priority.
"It is what compelled me to support Rudy Giuliani, initially," said DeWinter, 21, chair of the San Jose State University College Republicans. "I am now happy to support Sen. John McCain, as he is our nominee, and I believe that he is the best candidate out there to continue to combat international terrorism."
The Bay Area is home to 1,700 College Republicans, according to the umbrella organization California College Republicans. It is a sizable group, given the strong liberal bent of the San Francisco region, and the students are often fiery and vocal activists.

ciao for now.
Obama is coming on to the floor grabbing hands, hard to see.
Now he's in full view and speaks "thank you, Medford"
Thanks, Alan Bates, a local legislator
Thanks, organizer.
Introduced an old friend who is speaking, General Merrill McPeak
McPeak is saying that Hillary Clinton is a good person but he is very disappointed in the tactics of the Clinton campaign, and of Bill Clinton.

It taught me change doesn't start from the top-down, it starts from the bottom-up"
"Everywhere I go, I hear, that we are ready for something new...we've got to change the culture in Washington....I hear that people are not being heard...I talked to someone who took care of someone with Cerebral Palsy, and work, getting 3 hours sleep. She wanted to study...
She didn't feel the leaders were caring about here.
Another woman loved her work, she was 61, and didn't know how she would live when she couldn't work.
soldiers talk about PTSD that would not get diagnosed...they don't get a sense the government cares...people feel disconnected from the government...Americans are self-reliant, but...people have modest expectations that gov is not meeting because agenda is being set by the big...they have a legitimate claim but it is out-of-balance.
We can tell the lobbyings and fat cats that their day is over... they have not funded my campaign, ...we'll have a health care system instead of a disease-care system.
We can create an economy thats

Charles Harker--It's quite correct that in the past African Americans were kept in their place by penalizing anyone who might be inclined to support, promote or sustain them in any way. The only "acceptable" behavior was abuse. Often enough it was sufficient to simply offer a gentle reminder to what they had at stake to get these nigger-lovers to rethink their behavior. Let's hope the country is ready to change that.
I get the sense that Barack Obama knows how this works--that the whole system is based on a strategy of intimidation and that, while whites have to learn not to be intimidated by their kith and kin, blacks have to learn that what they perceive as white weakness was/is actually a logical response. Because, of course, if a white person is stripped of his assets and access because he follows his social inclination to be equitable and fair, he's not going to have anything to share, is he? Much as black men might not want to believe it, the white man is between a rock and a hard place. If he bucks the system, he's not worth knowing; if he goes along he can't share.
Fortunately, the Sesame Street Generation seems unaware of how that works. And then, of course, the elite have reduced benefits to such an extent that our young people of all colors have very little to lose. That's the drawback when there are no benefits for the next generation.

My job as commander-in chief will be to keep you safe,...as much as my family.. that starts with treating our troops properly, ....no more homeless veterans...a solemn obligation.
It also means using military wisely,...when that 3 am call comes - understand the intel...you want wisdom and judgement, that doesn't come from hanging out in Wash.
I opposed this war in 2002, I will oppose it in 2009. Carefull getting out as careless getting in. But I don't want to just end it, I want to break the mindset, the fever of fear in politics.
I will rally us together to go after those who would do us harm, but I will also talk with those, who I disagree with...not surprize Bush, McCain for against that position but surprize with Hillary...

With The Clintons, it's always about The Clintons. And their attitude that politicians in the party owe them is probably a big reason why so many are eager to throw them under the bus now that a new leader for the party has emerged.
***********
The fact is that very same attitude (apparently in respond…, lol) has been recognized by the politicians themselves. As Richardson himself noted just couple of days ago, he "owes a lot to the Clinton family but I served well. I paid it back in service to the country." (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/200...).
That is significant acknowledgment, imo that tells us quite a bit about inheritable by design the corrupt nature of ANY Party.
Therefore the peaceful, prosperous future of People in this and other countries around the Globe (just by example), ultimately can’t be associated with Party’s “leadership” but with its complete abolition.
We will lead to restore Habeus Corpus. You will have a president who taught the Constitution, and believes in the Constitution....
Oregon by the time it gets to you, it is way too late. We can change the country and change the world. Thank you.
(crowd is shouting "yes we can" )
" I think we have about 25 minute, we have time to take some questions..."
Yes, people have modest expectations and some people think that's an excuse to take advantage of them. It's not unlike arguing that a buyer deserves to be cheated for not being aware that the seller is dishonest in presenting his wares.
You know, it's human nature to try to avoid responsibilty for one's own mistakes, but shifting the onus of injury to the victim is downright evil. It's what Satan perpetrated in the Garden of Eden--blaming Eve for being deceived.
Evil is always clever. But, it's not the fault of good people when they are injured.
Personally, I think that deception is the greatest sin because it violates the integrity of the word.
I will try to go boy/girl boy/girl...
"What are your specific ideas for getting the country back on its feet"
This country has been badly,....sub prime, teaser rates, sho up. That could have been prevent with a regulatory system.
The mortgage industry spent $100 million trying to stop regs. Including something I wanted... they were borrowing to loan money to others...everybody is afraid to lend money...
Immediate shore-up mortgages, allow people to stay in homes, goveerment will help refinance....
Long term issues... economy not good for 99% - really not good for 90% when all the money goes up top, ordinary workers are not keeping up.
I want to roll back tax cuts on top 1% close tax havens and loophole - a bout $1 trillion of them.
No income tax on SS....This puts more money into the lower 90-99% of us.
PUt money into clean energy industries...these are good paying wages. Work with community colleges to work with people with jobs, a system of life long learning for young people
Globalization, tougher bargaining, go after China on devalueing, we need fair trade. Balanced economic growth
We cant keep borrowing a trillion $ from China. We need to balance the books. Cap-& trade, roll back loopholes, responsible stewardship has been missing for 7 years.
Dali Lama question:
I don' think Dali Lama is violent, Tibet has legitimate claims to historic position government has denied.
China is not enemy of ours, they are not competitor, but we cannot keep that by not criticizing about Darfur and Tibet,...

Monica, even the “human nature” has some more deep origins. The elements of it that you described more closely, imo, tied to the mutual relationships between people which are outside of any other types of relationships (outside of being relatives, for example) but “economical relationships”.
Responsibility for one's “own mistakes” can not be related to anything but “ownerships”.
Fred~ Thanks for the great narration of Barack's speech!
What kind of tools do you use to contain your composure?
Barack: try Not to take myself too seriously, but take my work seriously - its not about me, its about the American people.
as a rule I never read my own press. It's like a fun-house mirror, sometimes it makes you look good, sometimes it distorts you...
Things like the pastor force me to "dig deeper" and look for questions"
Finally, I have a 9 and 6 year old who dont care about this stuff (laughter)
(didn't hear question)
VA system, I want everybody screened for PTSD. Vet 7X more likely to be homeless. the have undiagnosed mental health problem. They start "self medicating"
We also have to give more support to military families, when they take time off to care, they cannot lose jobs and health care.
GI bill needs to be updated....today it only covers 1/5 or 1/6 and not living expenses. after WWII it covered everything
(What's your poisition in funding speacial ed?)
I am in favor of full funding, reaching full potential. Feds promised 40% and never gave more than 17-18%
We should gradually increase...
nice reporting, Fred. Did you get to attend?
former, I have nothing against ownership. It's what humans do. They make things their own by recognizing the shapes and sounds and weight embeded in their brains. I suspect that our dog had a sense of ownership, as well. We were hers to command.
(what to do to make environment a national security issue?)
This adm. has reversed progress, through adm and leg. so I can reverse the adm changes.
Climate change is #1. Cap and trade. Limits amt of carbon to certain amount, exceeding it fined, below it, you can sell your allowance,
That will generate billions of $ for green energy. Also, R&D for auto efficiency, but long term the answer to lowering oil prices is reducing demand.
Salmon runs, EPA that believes in protecting environm, etn, Dept of INterior that is not just shill for extraction industry.
When you use science, good things happen. better that just politics.
Western states - tension between environment and jobs, so important to sit with all parties, farming timber environmental interests, ...simply running down and using up, or sustain industries, at the same time, 20-100 years from now still enjouy benefits that's my guiding principle
Annilow,
I guess it is pretty much like everywhere else, except in June you can ride your motorcycle all night long in the daylight, we see eagles everyday, the Northern Lights over Potters Field are magnificent, plenty of glaciers around (the blue you see in the glaciers is indescribable, never have I seen a more beautiful blue).
I am against trapping animals, my son has a friend (he's nice but not environmentally friendly) said he wanted to show me something special, so dumb me went along. He drove me towards Denali, but we did not go into the park, to this day I'm not sure where I was. Anyway he drove to this little lodge (they are all over), said we were going to eat, inside were a few trappers, I had to sit there listening to their horrid stories of trapping wolves. They had their traps sitting right there on the floor. These guys looked like Grizzily Adams. He thought it was real funny, but I was pissed.
Downtown Anchorage you can buy any kind of fur that you can imagine. They are fashioned in the most beautiful designs, some dyed pink, blue, whatever you want. Not for me. They are very very expensive.
Oh, also the mosquitoes are horrible in the spring, especially down by the water, I could not live here without a mosquito zapper.
On Hatcher's Pass near here, you can go pan for gold, also walk the hills and pick up tiny pieces.
I love AK, but this will probably be my last year here, probably moving down to the lower 48 (maybe Washington state) next year.
I have been to the edge of ANWR. Don't let them fool you. It is beautiful. The Caribou are there. There are ancient Native burial grounds there. There are beautiful flowers. Please fight to save it.
(stem cell research?)
I am strong supporter.,..going to be discarded anyway...trying to.... "conceive" (from audience), thanks for the word, it's been a long week...
The notion that we would not want to relieve suffering doent make sense.
Science does not solve our most important problems, (getting along - treating each other) but science can help us make good decisions, and we need to continue to use science
speech (this week)had to do more than with race, many things divide us, we need to disagree without being disagreeable.
Just don't want to sing Kubaya, ...we get distracted by these division, we get caught in these divisions and don't solve our problem.
i.e. The war goes on bankrupting, the planet is being destroyed and we are arguing about gay marriage?
Obama has left the room, walked around the neighborhood before he came in.

Thanks, no, I am home with child care, recording it for my wife at work. I would have a problem with crowds with my MCS problem anyway. A big headache, which might have been worth it, for once, but couldn't make it. Tickets were sold out in an hour, after it was announced.
SALEM, Ore. - Hillary Clinton's campaign is trying to clarify comments by former President Clinton that seemed to question Barack Obama's patriotism — comments an Obama aide likened to Joseph McCarthy.
rae hart -- thanks for the wonderful descriptions -- it sounds wild and beautiful. Agree about the wolves -- that would have upset me terribly.

Note, “they make things” but some few or single “decider(s)” decide(s) how to use what THEY ALL make.
That’s the contradiction I’m talking about, that’s where responsibility avoidance origins are.

This past week heard about innocent civilians attacked and killed by one of our "robots" after insurgents. This is star wars and we are the evil empire.
No much different than what is going on in Gaza on both sides. a few militants shooting small rockets with no precision targeting, and civilians pay for it with deadly force of much more powerful sophisicated guided missiles
rae,
Thanks so much for the bear facts (umg, umg) on the previous thread. I had forgotten you live in a beautiful and wild state with brown, black, polar and grizzly bears.
Florida bears are not so big and there has never been a recorded attack by one on humans. They are quite shy but will appear in our yard to take a brief rest or pick through the garbage. I guess they know our yard is wildlife friendly and they are always welcome here. We watch them but don't bother them. One evening after dark I walked out to the boathouse and didn't notice the bear snoozing in the corner of the yard. I wasn't but a few feet away from him/her but he didn't panic, nor I since I was thrilled to death. I could only think to say, "Hi bear!"
We too put the "food" garbage in the garage, but put it out the night before since the collectors come before dawn.
rae,
Alaska and Hawaii are the only states Jim and I have not been to. Must get there. Glad to hear the glaciers are still beautiful.
We were in Alberta several years ago -- another beautiful place on the Ice Highway -- and some of the glaciers were already showing signs of melting due of course to global warming.
Seven years ago we drove through Glacier National Park (U.S.) on Going To the Sun Highway and the melting signs were sadly much more obvious. They told us then that in ten years they would not exist at the then-present rate. So I suppose there are only small patches left by now.
no, former, I think that the origin of responsibility avoidance is in the brain. The brain does not like to make a mistake. It's got a very conservative program that requires information to arrive and be processed three times, preferably in slightly different formats (sight, sound, touch, smell, etc) before it registers. After that, new information is added just as cautiously to insure that the final image/concept is accurate. If it later becomes inescapable that 'things don't fit' or the information proves worthless in terms of recreating an event, the brain is distressed and, like somebody that's misplaced something that they are sure they know where they put it, starts to obsess. And then that obsession is likely to discombobulate and leave the brain in a tangle. Denial is easier.
Thank you so much Fred for your Obama narrative and info in Medford OR. Hopefully C-span has caught it on video.
I wrote to C-span Thursday after a week of boring replays of old hearings and panels and told them they were beginning to be irrelevent and why hadn't they covered Obama's major speeches other than one replay of the race speech.
Since that time, they seems to have loaded up C-span with Obama stuff. It does help to put in your two cents now and then.
You can always email them at : events@c-span.org
