Will Gov. Spitzer Resign?

Written by: DFA Staff on Mar 11, 2008 11:45 AM EDT

The New York Times reports:

Top aides to Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Tuesday morning that they expect the governor to resign his office, although the timing of the resignation remains uncertain.

Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson and his staff have begun laying the groundwork for him to take over as governor and are reaching out to members of the Legislature, the aides said.

Clinton Declines Comment on Spitzer

Last Updated:
03-11-08 at 6:34AM

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton carefully sidestepped questions Monday about the sex scandal engulfing Eliot Spitzer, her home state governor and political ally.

...

Coincidentally, a handful of Clinton's high-profile supporters have been forced to apologize for sexual misbehavior.

Early in 2007, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom publicly apologized for having a relationship with the wife of a top political aide. He blamed alcohol dependence for his actions and checked into rehab.

Shortly after endorsing Clinton in May 2007, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a rising Hispanic star in the Democratic Party, announced he was divorcing his wife after carrying on monthslong affair with a local television news anchor.

Hillary Clinton is choking on the truth during her latest speeches in PA. Some folks just prepared to handle truth. Your body and the subconscious mind just doesn't know how to lie. It really doesn't matter how intense the programming has been. The evolution of survival will always prevail.

I find what Ferraro said almost as offensive as what Spitzer did, and why does Wolfson still have a job?

Michigan doesn't need to spend a dime to get past its joke of a 12 million dollar straw poll. Just name all District Delegates as unpledged, caucus and allocate at the District Convention and go ahead and elect your National delegates right well you are in caucus as many states do including Iowa, and it wouldn't cost a cent.

From previous thread, 49., linda.

Let me explain about the charge against Spitzer. If the prostitution ring had worked inside NYS only, there would be no federal involvement and Andrew Cuomo might be the one faced with the issue of what to do about his own boss.

But the prostitution ring included services like transporting the prostitutes to whatever location the... urm... leasor wanted. As soon as this became an interstate enterprise, it crossed the line to being a federal matter and a federal crime.

Even if you don't think prostitution is a problem, it becomes a problem when chattel (which is what prostitutes who work for others are) is transported back and forth. It's a short and slippery slope to sex slavery in which the chattel simply disappears from one venue to appear in an unextraditable place far, far away.

The laws are extremely clear and especially to someone as well versed in the law as Spitzer. Moreover, he made arrangements to pay her travel expenses, so he can't even plead he didn't know a federal crime was in progress. Instead, he aided and abetted.

He can get up to 20 years for facilitating the transportation of this prostitute. That's the law, I don't write 'em.

Now, could she travel anywhere she wanted of her own free will, apart from her work? Sure, that would not be a crime. But her work is illegal in large measure because it reduces her very being to a state of chattel property, the transportation of which over state lines makes it federal business.

We freed the slaves once but it didn't take. Anyone whose body is being sold by another is a slave. This needs to end.

BTW, don't believe everything you read in the MSM about Spitzer the rising Dem star. Truth to tell, his star's been on the wane from the day he took office and his approval rating is right now about the same as Bush's, plus virtually everyone working for him hates his guts.

If there's anything nefarious here at all, it may be that the Dems were the ones who did him in. But I honest to God think he kept his pastime a pretty deep secret, just judging from everything I see and read here in NY. He has never in his life been caught in anything compromising, ever. Until now.

Reasons to impeach

http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_peter_we_080311_raising_the_dialog_o.htm

a. Misleading Congress about the need for a war with Iraq.
b. Obstruction of justice by telling Federal Employees not to testify before Congress and/or not to respond to Congressional subpoenas.
c. Misuse of the Department of Justice for political purposes instead of law enforcement.
d. Approval of torture for captured prisoners by the US in violation of ratified US treaties.
e. Not providing the due process guaranteed to a US citizen by our Constitution by placing him in Guantanamo Bay Prison camp without access to a lawyer for an extended time period.
f. Attempt to bribe a US citizen who was raped and illegally imprisoned with US tax dollars to keep her silent and get her to drop her suit against Halliburton and the State Department.
g. Approval of the spying on US citizens by the NSA without a warrant.
h. No-bid extended contracts and failure of government agencies to enforce rules and regulations on the businesses they regulate leading to the loss of billions of tax payer dollars from the US treasury.
i. Destruction of government records to circumvent accountability by Congressional oversight.

did the leak happen before a grand jury was convened?

I thought leaks from a grand jury were a bigger crime than prostitution.

like the guy with the money in his freezer, we saw vidoetape from a stakeout before an indictment, and here the press had transcripts of a wiretap

the there is the question what is the penalty for bringing the male prostitute into the White House?

and if you get a lobbyist salary and the john doesn't have to pay at all but the taxpayer picks up the tab steering government contracts?

ask McCain, how business is done in DC?

I don't see how it hurts Obama and I'll bet it doesn't affect a single voter in Mississippi

Hi Kids

Blogging once again from Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego in Argentine Patagonia. Someone wants to use the one computer so I will write a note. Last night I slept like the dead for about 9 hours. I have all my chronic travel sicknesses, bronchitis, back muscle spasms, but so far I´am doing pretty good. Today we went to Lakes Escondido and Fagnano and doing so we drove across the Andes range. The place looks a lot like the north coast of the west coast of America but it is colder. We stopped for lunch at a ski resort I ate lamb which I didn´t know I like. It melted in the mouth. We had Calafate ice cream for dessert. Calafate is a small berry like a blueberry. It was almost a private tour. There was one Parisian couple and everyone kindly spoke English for the duration. On the drive we saw a dogsled kennel. It was interesting. I took a bunch of pictures so will show you when I return. Well the fellow wants the computer so I will give it up and maybe I can get it back in awhile. Don´t know what to make of Spitzer he seemed like such a star till he became governor. Adios for now.

Phil at 26.

I'm very hazy on the grand jury issue. The owners of the enterprise, four in all, were indicted the other day. Spitzer has not yet been indicted but expects to be as he has lawyered up with a top tier Manhattan firm.

I don't know if the same grand jury looking at the evidence against the proprietors would also be considering the evidence against the clients.

His federal crime would have been paying to transport her hither and yon, but that in an of itself could get him 20 years, and he sure can't plead ignorance of the law (even though it isn't an excuse).

BTW, the story keeps getting worse. Apparently he had numerous assignations over several years. So while he was still AG, and possibly during the times he was shutting down such "services" in NY, he was also patronizing one, which it now comes out is located in... New Jersey. So there was plenty of premeditation and planning, and my guess is the last stiletto to fall will be that this Jersey operation is mobbed up.

C'mon folks, vote for Barack.

The most important figures are the percentages to win the delegates.

The number of voters could be important so Obama can keep that healthy lead of popular votes as well.

Having been a poll worker for a decade, most 9 to 5 office workers come by early in the morning. Curing the day is a mixed bag. The late afternoon voters are the blue collar workers, laborers, and couples.
