Hi Jo and Tom and BFA,

Wanted  you all to know that I am running to be an OBAMA delegate for the DNC convention out in Oregon.

It is refreshing to see that people are actually noticing the kitchen GARBAGE DISPOSAL, not sink is being thrown at Obama.  This will NOT be tolerated.

Barack in 2008!

Palestinian citizens in Israel are barred ( "excused" ) from serving in the IDF. Some apologists for Revisionist ("Iron Wall") Zionism will even spin this as some kind of benefit.

Maybe when Obama is elected someone will remind him of when African-Americans were barred from military service, as Palestinian citizen of Israel are now.

Stop fumigation of citizens without their consent in California

Tens of thousands of residents of the State of California are being sprayed under the cover of night with pesticides containing partly unknown chemicals. These sprayings, conducted without adequate health studies, are done not to protect residents from a clear and present public health danger, but rather to protect special interests worried about eradicating the Light Brown Apple Moth.

The spray operations in Central Coast counties of Monterey and Santa Cruz, resulted in over 600 reports of health illnesses. State authorities have not only failed to respond, but now plan new aerial spray operations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Isn't it great to have a campaign where the aides and sorogates who make mistakes take themselves out of the campaign in support of the candidate? How many years has it been since we have seen something so right as this? I'm sure the campaign will miss Samanatha but she did the right thing for the campaign and the candidate.

CHICAGO, March 7 (Reuters) - A foreign policy adviser to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama resigned on Friday after calling campaign rival Hillary Clinton a "monster" during an interview with a British newspaper.

Samantha Power, a foreign policy aide on the Illinois senator's White House campaign, said the comments were inexcusable. They were published on Friday by The Scotsman newspaper.

"With deep regret, I am resigning from my role as an adviser to the Obama campaign effective today," Power said in a statement.

"Last Monday, I made inexcusable remarks that are at marked variance from my oft-stated admiration for Senator Clinton and from the spirit, tenor and purpose of the Obama campaign."

Listening to this back in the late 60s/early 70s, never thought I'd still be singing it in 2007 - seems like we're going around in circles rather than moving forward - but now there's the internet - maybe that will make a difference.

I'm not sure I want to represent this state of confusion:))

Jo is right, National Nurse will be adopted and you will have made it all happen.

I forward some of the newsletters to a granddaughter who is studying to become a nurse.

Yesterday, Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson had said that people in the Clinton campaign were asked to leave after making comments about Obama's drug use, or about rumors that Obama is a Muslim.  Today, Samantha Power resigned from the Obama campaign.

Yesterday, Wolfson compared Obama to independent prosecutor Ken Starr in reaction to calls from Obama for the release of Clinton's tax returns.  Any notice of Wolfson's resignation?  No. What a jerk.

It's boiled down the the basic question of whether Democrats will remain enthralled to the Clinton Dynasty or set them aside and move ahead as a party of democrats.

The GOP won't get its chance to ditch the Bush Mafia until 2012 or 16, but there's little chance that they will throw off the bonds to their royal family considering how difficult it is for Democrats to do it.

Alright, here's a buffoon who's running for president.  This exchange is excerpted from Bethany Thomas's report at First Read:

Elisabeth Bumiller of the New York Times asked, “Senator, can I ask you about Senator Kerry[?] I just went back and looked at our story, the Times story, and you told Sheryl Stolberg that you had never had a conversation with Kerry about being about vice president...”

McCain testily replied, “Everybody knows that I had a private conversation. Everybody knows that. That I had a conversation. There’s no living American in Washington -- that knows that, there’s no one.”

Bumiller: “Okay.”

McCain: “And you know it, too. You know it. So, I don’t even know why you ask.”

Bumiller: “Well, I ask because I just read…”

McCain: “You do know it. You do know it.”

Bumiller: “Because I just read in the Times in May of ’04 you said….”

McCain: “I don’t know what you may have read or heard of, I don’t know the circumstances. Maybe in May of '04 I hadn’t had the conversation…”

Bumiller: “But do you recall the conversation?”

McCain: “I don’t know, but it’s well known that I had the conversation. It is absolutely well known by everyone. So do you have a question on another issue?”

Bumiller: “Well can I ask you when the conversation was?”

McCain: “No. nope, because the issue is closed as far as I’m concerned. Everybody knows it. Everybody knows it in America.”

Bumiller: “Can you describe the conversation?”

McCain: “No, of course not. I don’t describe private conversations.”

Bumiller: “Okay. Can I ask you…”

McCain: “Why should I? Then there’s no such thing as a private conversation. Is there (inaudible) if you have a private conversation with someone, and then they come and tell you. I don’t know that that’s a private conversation. I think that’s a public conversation.”

Bumiller: “Okay. Can I ask you about your (pause) Why you’re so angry?”

McCain: “Pardon me?”

Bumiller: “Nevermind, nevermind.”

McCain: “I mean, it’s well known. Everybody knows. It’s been well chronicled a thousand times. John Kerry asked if I would consider being his running mate.”

Bumiller: “Okay.”

McCain: “And I said categorically no, under no circumstances. That’s very well known.”

hi puddle - long time no see!  ie; we never seem to be here at the same time (prolly missed you this time, too!)  hope all is well with you!  I've missed Denise and thankful and a couple of others a lot lately too.  'course it's kinda hard to pinpoint when anyone is here lately - LOL!

I've been wondering if Hillary finally 'crossed the line' for LindaNM and seashell?  haven't heard from them since before the last primaries.  agree with them or not, I do miss their voices - they were really trying to work out who/how to support a candidate for quite some time now.  at times, in my arrogance, I simply couldn't understand why they could not see what I see about Hillary.  but that is something I hope I've learned to deal with.  a lot of really good people across this nation are currently supporting Hillary and just as I wanted to be able to support her and hoped I was wrong about her, if they're paying attention they must be as shocked and sick as I was to learn what she'll actually do to win this.  it's very sad to see what a great lust for power can do to such potential for good.

Hi Pat,

A sad poem and maybe something some of us will face. I'm already forgetting things and are my friends.

Another busy day...so much happening at once.

Mouth is feeling great.

1.  Find good new tenant, write ad.

2.  Finish cleaning studio

3.  Send money to Argentina to reserve studio there

4.  Set appointment for crown

5.  Buy airline ticket

6.  Paint, if there's time

7.  Look for dental insurance

etc etc etc.  The lists just get longer.  LOL

Right now I don't feel a need for a co-op...maybe when I have more paintings done and have more time.    I have a wonderful tango family, and some of them are painters, so I don't feel deprived.

Gotta dash.

This is for Jo because she misses Linda's voice here.  It's part of Linda's latest diary from the myDD sludge pit:

"Keith Olbermann has become such a disappointment.  As diaries and HIS SHOW display a different agenda than that of his truth telling days we all long for.

"Instead, Keithie has decided to become a surrogate of the TV personalities for the Obama campaigns smear machine.  A day I don't think even the Obama followers expected to see.

"His show lastnight, as discussed in this diary, was an onslaught on Hillary."

Tom,

So timely with that Olbermann piece by you-know-who:)) I was just coming on here to post a few words about how well Keith and his guests did last night.

Keith is becoming a real force in this election. He brought up many of the Clintons' absurdities, ridiculousness and nutty statements.

By addressing these Clinton issues, he is forcing CNN and other MS hosts to weigh in on them or be left struggling with their non-credibility problems.

I sincerely hope that nobody would wish Howard to disappear into Health and Human Serv. for our self serving purpose of creating a Nat'l Nurse position. Important though it may be, it is way down on the list of things he might do for our country.

Let's expand our thinking and focus on the big picture, maybe just a little peak out of the box.
Can Progressives play Hardball?

Img19-1_tinythumb

By Joan In Florida on Mar 7, 2008 4:51 PM EST

Our own liberal newspaper is still trying to "get our votes counted" as if all their viewers support that. This paper is fast becoming irrelevant since its original owner died a year ago.

Howard has the Clintons in a hole though. He has said definitely the  DNC will not pay for a "re-do" since Clinton agreed to the rules and the DNC needs the money for the general election. (He didn't mention that besides that the DNC does not fund primaries, that's up to the states.)

Gov. Crist has now said Florida will not pay for a re-do.

The Fla Dem Party long ago said they would not cough up the $4 million for a caucus and the Clintons would not agree to a caucus anyway.

Dean has said the Fla delegation, without a new election, will not be seated unless it is approved by the credentials committee which would have to have the approval of whoever has the most delegates already and that will be Obama.

The only option left is if Clinton and Obama agree on some kind of re-do. Since Clinton will not agree to a caucus, all Obama has to do is not agree to a primary. And neither would want to pay for anything any way.

Case closed!

Subject: This About Says It AllWhether Democrat or Republican, I think you'll get a kick out of this! A little boy goes to his dad and asks, 'What is Politics?' Dad says, 'Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I am the head of the family, so call me The President. Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People. The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we will call him the Future. Now think about that and see if it makes sense.' So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parent's room and finds his mother asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy say's to his father, 'Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.' The father says, 'Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.' The little boy replies, 'The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep Shit

Hey kiddies!!ç

I am blogging from Seashell´s hangout Buenos Aires and now I know why she always forgot how to type while here the keys do not match. I did a City Tour today and am going to a tango show tonight but I won´t be dancing I promise. Tomorrow I s-b flying to Iguazu Falls thus the yellow fever shot. They are supposed to have free internet at that hotel too so I should be able to get off a note. BA is about what one would expect. I´ve never been southern hemisphere before so it is really strange going from azaleas and dogwoods to a place where fall and cold weather are in the air. This city is one of amazing contrasts from very Spanish and very well to do to literal shanty towns little shed size buildings on top of one another down by the docks. My heart went out to an old she dog with teats hanging full and long and obviously a stray trying to take care of her babies. I´m sympathetic to dog mothers but not people mothers I guess. Everyone speaks a little English and my years in California taught me more Espanol than I realized so so far so good. Take care all I will glance at KOS to see the news. Hope to see you tomorrow.

What makes these comments about Olbermann amusing is that a couple of months ago many were complaining that he was pro-clinton. If that was so, and he isn't now, it must be because he hasn't liked what he's been seeing from her and hers since then.

U.S. Lost 63,000 Jobs in February

Shobhana Chandra
Bloomberg
March 7, 2008

The U.S. unexpectedly lost jobs in February for the second consecutive month, adding to evidence the economy is in a recession.

Payrolls fell by 63,000, the biggest drop since March 2003, after a decline of 22,000 in January that was larger than initially estimated, the Labor Department said today in Washington. The jobless rate declined to 4.8 percent, reflecting a shrinking labor force as some people gave up looking for work.

A weakening job market, combined with lower home values, higher fuel bills and stricter lending rules, raises the odds consumer spending will keep slowing. Falling employment is one reason Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke has signaled central bankers are prepared to lower interest rates again.

“All the lights are flashing red,” said Nariman Behravesh, chief economist at Global Insight Inc. in Lexington, Massachusetts, in an interview with Bloomberg Television. “We’re in a recession. I don’t think there is any doubt about it at this point.”

Minutes before the figures were released, the Fed said it will expand two short-term auctions this month to $100 billion, from $60 billion, to address “heightened liquidity pressures” in markets. Treasury notes surged and the dollar weakened after the employment figures.

Goldman Sachs: Oil May Reach $200 a Barrel

Steve Gelsi
MarketWatch
March 7, 2008

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — With $100-a-barrel here for now, Goldman Sachs says $200 a barrel could be a reality in the not-too-distant future in the case of a “major disruption.”

Goldman on Friday also boosted by $10 the low end of its 2008-2012 projected range for crude to $60 a barrel — significantly lower than current prices, to be sure, but a possible mark for oil if “normalized” trends return to the marketplace.

With the dollar’s fall continuing and financial markets roiled by the credit crunch, commodities like oil have been drawing the fancy of increasing numbers of investors. Accordingly, Wall Street firms have been eager to adjust forecasts to incorporate fresh data on the global economy and energy supplies.

Goldman analysts Arjun Murti, Kevin Koh and Michele della Vigna said prices have advanced more quickly than Goldman had forecast back in 2005, when it predicted a range of $50 to $105 a barrel as part of its “super-spike” oil theory.

“We characterized the upper end of the band as more likely to be driven by geopolitical turmoil and that recession was a key risk to our view,” the analysts said. “In fact, oil prices have reached $100 a barrel without extraordinary turmoil, and the U.S. currently appears to be in recession.” change is coming get out your wallet.

The Clintons will all but guarantee they will lose a hefty amount of it in the fall, as they richly deserve to. Some will gravitate to McCain; others will be so disillusioned they will withdraw from politics for another generation.

If the Clintons grind up and kill the most promising young leader since Kennedy, and if they do it not on the strength of their arguments, but by the kind of politics we have seen them deploy, the backlash will be deep and severe and long. As it should be.

It was inevitable. Neocon bloggers, hardly satisfied at the ineffectiveness and lethargy of the antiwar movement, are insinuating a reemergence of the Weather Underground and the SLA after a hooded somebody on a bicycle placed a flash-boom device at a recruitment center located in Times Square.

“Now the movement has decided to morph into domestic terrorism,” writes Hot Air, a blog appropriately entitled. “Of course, the people responsible will claim that they bombed the office during the night to keep anyone from being hurt. That’s exactly the same kind of rationalization that people like the Weather Underground and the SLA used at first, anyway — that terrorism was justified by their politics. In fact, a few like William Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn still claim that.”

I sincerely hope that nobody would wish Howard to disappear into Health and Human Serv. for our self serving purpose of creating a Nat'l Nurse position.

He could do much more good than just that. Cabinet positions must be plum jobs since even high ranking congress critters give up their seats for them.

Joan - I just hope someone steps in - an adult if you will. I was just listening to a reporter on MSNBC talking about Obama and Clinton attacking each other and how voters will be turned off. Who exactly is doing the attacking? Sheesh. This is so ugly now.

Clark and Rubin attack "amateur hour"

Retired NATO commander Wes Clark and former State Department spokesman Jamie Rubin attacked Samantha Power on a Clinton conference call just now, a fairly poignant moment because Power, in the past, has been their vocal ally.

Clark is a hero of Power's first book, A Problem from Hell, and she and Rubin both backed Clark for president in 2004.

Clark today called her words "disturbing" and suggested that Obama's stance boils down to "simply show[ing] up and say[ing], 'What's this all about?'" That approach would, he said, "leave us still at war."

Rubin blamed Obama for the mess, in particular for giving a senior foreign policy advisor -- he described her variously as a "guru" and a "svengali" with "unlimited access to the candidate -- free rein to tour the world talking about his policies in a field where words matter.

"He can't seem to run a foreign policy team the way it's supposed to run," he said, calling it "amateur hour on making foreign policy."

"I feel very sorry for her," Rubin said. "This is his fault, not her fault."

I've always liked Jamie Rubin (love his wife too) but talk about immature. Sheesh.

Jo....

When I have something to say to a person, I will address them, as I have here.

My post was general, I asked a question, and made some comments. I spoke to Progressives and used the word "oUr". I made no reference to you or suggestion about you. I don't even know you. Just because you made a comment about the subject doesn't mean that all other comments about that subject are about you.

I've always liked Jamie Rubin

Every clintanoid carries a dagger and will use it -- preferably in the back.
