It's Not a Recesssion, It's a "Slowdown"
Reuters reports on Ford laying off 2,500 workers:
Ford Motor Co said on Monday it would eliminate shifts at four U.S. plants and lay off some 2,500 workers -- or almost 5 percent of its remaining work force -- as part of an effort to cut costs and return to profitability next year.

Hillary running on a repub ticket...best laugh I've had all day...that's one port in a storm that the SSRepug wouldn't dock in.
When there's a new thread, it feels like I just chopped my way through the jungle with a machete to see daylight again.
Hi Reed!

LOL Denise.
Hey Reed :-)

Hi Denise,
Just back from our Town meeting...no swearing by folks this year but some heated discussion...everything passed that wasn't on Australian ballot, including keeping the budget off of Australian ballot so as to keep our Town Meetings as is.

How are ya Thankful? Headed up this way anytime soon?
I don't know what an Australian ballot is, Reed.
Phil...now if you can their funeral home...it might be on a ranch in Texas.
Looks like the NAFTA flack is causing a little controversy in Canada. Here is a video of Jack Layton Head of Canada's New Democratic Party accusing Prime Minister Stephen Harper of trying to sabotage Obama's campaign. I still want to know what Bill Clinton was doing in Canada Sunday.

Another Downturn: Bush Souvenirs In Crawford, Texas By John D. McKinnon Word Count: 1,138CRAWFORD, Texas -- For the last presidential election campaign, Norma Nelson Crow hung an 11-foot-long banner above her thriving souvenir shop here that said, "Bush 2004." On election night, she and her employees celebrated by overlaying it with a new word, so the banner read, "Bush Wins."
These days, another banner flaps in the hot August breeze: "Building for Sale."
Ms. Crow's store, Crawford Country Style, closed last October after 4½ years in business, as the flow of tourists arriving here for a glimpse of President Bush dried up. She says hundreds of tourists used to stop by on busy
Denise,
Australian ballot is where it is decided at the ballot box instead of on the floor of the Town Meeting. Many towns are going this way and it is killing the traditional Town Meeting where articles are debated, amended and voted on by those present.
I guess a slowdown is worse than a recession
it sure feels worse.
Now, all you folks were so quick to believe a blogger posting quotations from a CBS blog...did any of you bother to even look that it was a question on who would be able to match up against McCain's foreign policy experience? Nooooooo
March 1 Dallas,
"“I think you'll be able to imagine many things Senator McCain will be able to say,” she said. “He’s never been the president, but he will put forth his lifetime of experience. I will put forth my lifetime of experience.Senator Obama will put forth a speech he made in 2002.”
Gee, much different than a blogger claiming Hillary was endorsing Obama, huh?

Hi again everyone. (I know you too Denise and you too Thankful and probably a bunch of others on here!)
Had to watch Hillary on The Daily Show. She seemed to be recommending Obama over McCain this time...?
Has anyone pondered a Clinton/Lieberman ticket? LOL (Sorry to Hill fans, I just couldn't help myself. :-) Dogma
Reed ~ I'm in Chicago for a bit, will probably get up that way again later in the spring.

Reed thanks for my lesson of the day. I had three hours to get a new one it and you obliged :)
Thankful. Don't forget to visit us too. Melody still talks about "her Thankful" walking in the cemetery. Peace.
It would not have had to be a tri-angulating Clinton third term that Hillary was proposing but it is just that.
choose wisely Ohio
Vermont gave us all one of the real thrills of Howard's campaign with his win there.
OK, let me know Thankful...hopefully all the snow will be gone by then...
and waving to Linda before zzzville as it's midnight and I must rise again in 4 hrs (sounds like something from a horror movie...lol). oh, btw...Hillary is me second choice of those left standing...my man Gravel didn't fair too well
Ellen ~ will be sure to stop in there too. {{{hugs}}} to Melody ♥

Phil, I got a thrill as I was a Dean delegate to the state convention...quite early in me involvement of politics. We were determined to have Howard win his home state.
Nite all.

The Clinton campaign - false confidence? This is from my dd (via LA Times).

s m - Thanks for The Field report. I hope Al Giordano isn't being over optimisitc.

I wonder if the Clinton campaign is putting on this show of confidence because some of the polling in OH looks good. The press is all about Hillary today. But look at early voting in TX. I really think Obama is going to take TX and by more than a few points. Just a feeling from reading all the reports from the ground. I'm remembering all the way back to WI (LOL) where the press was talking about Hillary pulling out a squeaker and look what happened - 17+ Obama.
it's 1 am and I'm headed to watch the daily show - will leave you with this to ponder:
clip...
While a modest victory across the board tomorrow might slow Clinton's decay on the superdelegate front, there is yet another matter which surely must be weighing on the mind of Senator Clinton.
As DNC Chairman, Howard Dean was able to hand pick seventy-five superdelegates. Looking at how these supers are currently aligned reveals what sort of influence Mr. Dean could have in the event that the nomination battle goes the whole way to Denver. As of this writing, within Senator Clinton's current lead of forty-seven, there are about twenty-five supers who were chosen by Dean himself. Furthermore, of the approximately 290 superdelegates who have yet to endorse a candidate, twenty-four of them were named by Dean..
While these superdelegates weren't chosen simply as proxies for Dean and are free to vote as they wish, one would have to expect that Dean could influence a considerable number of them in the event that the battle for the nomination seemed headed for the convention floor. Given the subtext of the DLC/DNC conflicts outlined by Ari Berman of The Nation on February 28, the current Clinton lead of forty-seven would appear to be more theoretical than practical.

Repub ticket....DLC ticket.....what's the diff?
I wonder if the Clinton campaign is putting on this show of confidence because some of the polling in OH looks good.
I hard to believe that her chief pollster strategist, Mark Penn, would be absoving himself of all responsibility if the internal polling was good.

The nastiest and yet the most subtle 527(c)3 that's out there - the mainstream media - seemed to be out there in full force tonight - right on down to The Daily Show - trying to influence the Dem nomination for Clinton.
Choose well, Texas,
Choose well, Ohio.
Choose well, Rhode Island.
I trust you'll choose well, Vermont.
And, as always .......
Good to see you amongst friends, David :-)
