Gov. Dean and the 50-state Strategy in the Nation
Ari Berman has a piece in the upcoming issue of the Nation about Howard Dean, the DNC, the presidential candidates, and the 50-state strategy:
The race for the Democratic nomination is a window into how the candidates view the future of the party, which is being shaped in large part by Dean's efforts. Are Clinton and Obama similarly committed to Dean's fifty-state strategy? How much faith would each, as the Democratic nominee, put in the party's grassroots? In the Internet era, the party is less about elder statesmen sitting in Washington than millions of people across the country organizing locally around issues and candidates. Dean and Obama have understood how the party is changing--and have embraced it. Clinton, thus far, has not.

If Clinton soldiers on with canvassing and expanding the Party in Indiana and Kentucky and West Virginia, and especially next in Pennsylvania and runs a positive campaign about the future and her role in taking the country back out of this hole Bush dug .... no harm done
If she begins to take the low road the super delegate branch of the Party is going to want to pull the plug
Obama can train volunteers from states right across the border and turn around and send them home to good effect
this is only bad for the party if it is a circular firing squad, if they both focus on McCain and the future, win/win
Hillary herself holds the key, because she can fire the team members that go negative.
Thanks Phil, that helps alot. I do feel kind of uncomfortable calling on Sunday though, interrupting family time. But I'm going to, it is important.
I wish I could write a letter like we did for Howard.
Step-on-my-whowho-a-lot says that 'Cain may have an opening with working-class Regan centrist Dems...
Not the ones I work with! They'll go Obama, not Clinton or 'Cain.
Morning,
Hi sm, I know how you feel about phone banking. I, too, have the same discomfort though I've done lots of it. Mostly people are pretty nice, same with knocking on doors. But, the introvert that I am, really hates to bother people because I don't like being bothered. Irony is, I'm pretty nice when people bother me.
Judy for Dean, thanks for the correction on the last thread about Hezzbolah and Hamas. I've had a respiratory infection, and after I posted last night it occurred to me I said Hezzbolah instead of Hamas. Not being able to breathe fuddles the brain.
Snow here after 60 and 70 degree weather and the beautiful spring light yesterday. Ah, Colorado. I think our altitude and being affected by the air currents makes us aware of how changeable weather is.
I am praying, yes, praying that Obama wins the coming contests. Now as an exCAtholic, I'm not sure how welcome my prayers are, but I so desperately want a change, want to believe in the good will, effort, and ethics of this country again. If anyone is interested, read John Dean's book, Broken Government, and the details of how the Republicans, and some Democrats have corrupted our system are more than dismayiang. They are frightening.
Ignoring my own superstitions about jinxes - anyway they were just discussing it on MTP -- if Obama's biggest 'flaw' is 'inexperience' his veep should represent 'experience' -- now who would help him win in a landslide? Not to mention we might have a real country again? Al Gore.

Updated Goal: 1.5 Million Calls Before Polls Close on Tuesday, March 4th
By Sam Graham-Felsen - Mar 1st, 2008 at 9:12 pm EST
Believe it or not, 300,000 calls were made on Saturday and we have already met our original goal of 1,000,000 calls by March 4th. This is a remarkable achievement.
Now we're upping the ante: let's make 1,500,000 calls before polls close on Tuesday.
...
This is our window to effect change. This is our chance to make a difference.

should be Hezbollah instead of Hezzbolah.

Russert's performance as a moderator of this week's debate has drawn widespread criticism. Most appalling was his bizarre fixation on Louis Farrakhan.
Russert asked Barack Obama about Louis Farrakhan's praise for the Illinois senator. Obama, who had previously denounced Farrakhan, did so again. Then Russert asked about Farrakhan again. So Obama reiterated his denunciation. Then Russert, (who, I can only assume, was not bothering to listen to Obama's responses) asked about Farrakhan again. So Obama again reiterated his denunciation. Russert, plowing ahead, asked yet another question about Farrakhan, prompting Obama to answer yet again.
Josh Marshall summed up Russert's behavior nicely: "It was a nationwide, televised, MSM version of one of those noxious Obama smear emails."

re: Russert -- I loved Matelin talking about how individually we were all doing just great with the economy -- it was obvious SHE is doing ok with the economy -- that suit and her jewelry were to die for.
On Chris Matthews Sunday show the woman Cynthia? from Georgia said John Lewis waited too late to change is vote to Obama and b/c of it he had a Dem challenger for the first time in memory -- b/c they feel he is out of touch with the voters of his district. She said that others not switching would face the same fate. Quite frankly I find this a little scary -- like the rumors on past threads that superdelegates are being strongarmed to change.

At the beginning of Russert's June 2004 appearance on Rush Limbaugh's radio show, Limbaugh noted: "We don't have guests on this program, but we made an exception here for our friend Tim Russert of NBC News." Russert replied, "It's an honor to be here, Rush. Thank you very much. "[...]
Russert was a frequent guest on Don Imus' radio show and appeared just two days after Imus' comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team that ultimately led to his firing. Russert didn't say anything to Imus about the comments, nor did he comment on the Imus controversy in any other forum.[...]
http://mediamatters.org/items/200802290020?f=h_topBAGHDAD - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Sunday his landmark visit to Iraq opened a new chapter in "brotherly" relations between the two countries, which were once bitter enemies.
11. Paine -- makes you wonder why Saudi is 'in bed' with the Israelis -- of course this is an assumption that the Israelis are up to something -- who told the Saudis? Of course if it's US up to something - prolly the Saudis told us to do it -- I think that Saudi king is running the Bush-Cheney (and thus our) show.

I would imagine that Hezbollah (being a friend of Mike's friend-Iran) will attack Saudis to make room for more Islamist elbowroom.
"Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia is a major supporter of the Sunni-led government in Lebanon which has been locked in a 15-month-old political standoff with an opposition led by Iranian-and-Syrian backed Hezbollah."
Six feet under for those who support Islamist Iranian hierarchy - the enemy of peace.
Vote Obama / I trust him to protect us from the threat posed by Islamism.

Should the Clinton's be bringing up land deals?
Calling Ken Starr! Calling Ken Starr!
He'll get to the bottom of it.
I would never vote for a Presidential candidate that would not pull the trigger on a missle strike on actionable intelligence that they had a bead on Osama and 80% plus of the country is with me on that, which is why Obama gave the right answer back to McCain.
to expand that to every past student of every madrassas would be a big mistake paine, it should be good enough for a warrant from FISA, as a potential threat
vigilance against threat, action against enemy combatants, but please be wise enough to be lowering that number not increasing it
wisdom is Obama's trump card against either McCain or for the next couple of days, Clinton
Clinton does make a stand in for McCain and if he can't defeat her arguments he willl have the same trouble with McCain
sm, absolutely Hillary can talk about Obama and Rezko's land deal.. But there is much more there than just that one land deal. There's favors, money, other bad deals, etc. There's nothing that hasn't already been dragged, sifted, tried to make more of what's not there and already been cleared that Hillary has already dealt with. Obama has refused to even be questioned by the Chicago papers on this.
And, Annilow, saw your message to me posted, but this is not a rumor or a lie on Rezko and Obama's connection, this is all fact and reports, and you will see, I posted the links you inadvertently didn't copy and post on that thread, at the bottom. So if you need the links, sorry you missed them, but I reposted them back a couple threads for you.

So, I heard all the Obama's trying to claim Hillary's 3AM ad was fear mongering, and that the Obama supporters thought it was terrible.
So, I haven't noticed anything here, now that Obama COPIED Hillary's 3AM ad and changed the ending for himself, where's the outrage? He not only copied her ad, but used the same supposed "fear mongering" he complained of? LOL
Obama's ad

Blitzer:
'Howard Dean live at the top of the hour'
(that would be high noon EST)
The 3am type political ads have been around since 1984. They discussed that this morning on MTP. Not saying anyone copied anyone but the strategy to use these types of ads has been around for awhile now.
Obama used the same type of ad to specifically call out their own message as opposed to hers. I don't see it as copying so much as using a message strategy that has been around for a couple of decades, and to SPECIFICALLY show where they are diametrically in opposition of each other with that strategic message.
Matalin's pink suit shows how much she is enamored of that color. I wonder if she puts it on and then plays hide and seek with Carville in the Pepto Bismol room when friskiness strikes them. LOL
Yikes what a visual.

We've seen both ads thanks to the morning shows. Obama's ad was a (record turnaround according to one pundit-don't remember who) RAPID RESPONSE ad. That is why it is a copy -- he is replying to her.
Obama's ad was so clever - it was more of a parody of Clinton's ad, Linda.
Linda - Did you read Ari Berman's piece in The Nation about Dean's Legacy? It's a must read.

I read all the threads - if you posted links I'm sorry I missed them. Can you please post them again? Maybe others missed them too.
Regarding Matalin's pink room. When you have a man in your house - I think you need to be fair about your color scheme. We have bold colors in our house and it works well with maleness too. Besides my husband is color blind. LOL

That's how I feel about Obama -- we've posted and posted responses from his factcheck page and they seem to be not read -- so I feel like I've 'already dealt with it' but if like me you missed my link before, here's a link to Obama's fact check page.

Linda wrote "I posted the links you inadvertently didn't copy and post on that thread, at the bottom."
The links you didn't copy and post were to Hsu's criminal activities and his connection to Clinton and the office holders favoring her nomination. I'm unsure if there was inadvertency involved.

Linda's not letting on that she actually understands that's the case.
Deaniac - I believe Danny is just quoting from The Nation's article on Dean.
Regarding Obama not speaking to Chicago newspapers - this must mean in the past few months as there are many archives on the Internet showing him he discussed it in 2006 when questioned by the Tribune.
He's admitted what he knows - what else does he need to do? Both candidates can be associated with him, so any further discussion from them only takes away from talking about the real issues that are important to today's voter - the economy, health care, Middle East situation, etc.
Howard coming up next on CNN. (I was only watching for a few minutes while cooking). I'm sufficiently embarassed and ashamed.
So the dirty Clinton campaign is still trying to steal this primary election. Thanks for this link mary.
I don't believe the Dallas News would print this story if there wasn't something to it.
