Beginning thread: Thoughts about Education.
Linked to groups: Florida DFA
Education is vital to this Country's survival and well-being. It seems that we have an unlimited budget for War but this can not be said for Education. Why do we hear reports that Public Education is in trouble? I think the powers that be want to see Privatized Education and the budget will be the means to the end of Public Education. We can not allow this to happen! Public Education can be turned around. My wife is an Educator to Teachers: She instructs them on how to teach. Just as in any job there are bad teachers. Many good teachers have left to make more money in other jobs....Wouldn't you? Consider that they have college educations and college loans to pay for , They are not dumb they are going to make as much money as they can even if it means jobs other than being a teacher. Next Privatized school would mean better education for the financially privileged. Public education would go down even more. We need to mandate free education and consider free technical education and free college level education. Who would benefit - ALL OF US. A Smarter country: more candidates for public office, people out of poverty or at least the chance of going in that direction. We need minimum wage to be livable we need minimum associate wages, minimum Bachelor wages, minimum Masters wages and minimum Doctorate wages. So that as people progress their pay has the potential to do so as well. People want to pay as little as posible set a minimum.
This is just the beginning, I could take hours listing why education is a top priority as a national security interest as well as personal interests. This is not all inclusive and one person can not speak for all others.
For our DFA webmasters: Please ask the Yahoo webmasters to stop playing games by disconnecting the first click on feature in my above post! It wrecks the entire message for that to be gone and defeats the entire purpose of our trying to share ideas!! Please don't look like you're in with them by leaving the situation uncorrected!!!

You are correct in your reasoning that we should only have public education! Unfortunately, the public schools teach the students Darwinian materialism!!

George Lakoff on Obama-Clinton and *issues*

"Darwinian Materialism?" Somebody has confused "Survival of the Fittest" with "Greed is Good." Hit the science books Tom. If your book has a chapter on Creationism, you can skip that part. and go straight to the chapter on Evolution.
Clinton was up by 37 in MASS -- not she's up by six.

This is prolly not quite as far-fetched as it seems at first read; interesting at any rate.
This one is for all Opednews people. I put it as a diary entry because this way I can be more free in my expressions. But I encourage everyone to read my predictions without passion or prejudice.
::::::::
1. Dem Party Pres. ticket will be Clinton/Obama. GOP ticket will be McCain/Lieberman (Joe will become Independent). GOP wins.
2. In about a month after inauguration Pres. McCain will form a War On Terror Council under chairmanship of Joe Lieberman and permanent members: Joe, Hillary, Obama, Rangel, Cheney, Chertoff, Mukasey, Pat Robertson and the director of the CounterIntelligence Center. The appointment to Council will be at the discretion of the Pres.
3. The economy will tank but all statistics will be considered secret and officially we will be stable forever.
4. Freedom of Information Act will be abolished.
5. The US will announce building a nuclear silo in Iraq.
6. Israel will transfer the Arabic population of the Gaza strip and Israel proper to Iraq with the help of the US.
7. We will freeze our relations with Russia. That will lead to antisemitic acts in Russia and ... Israel will get their desired million of refugees to fill the void.
8. The War Council will clamp on any internal opposition. Internet will be purged from the anti- war sites.
9. We will proceed in full speed in building walls around us.
10. Global warming will not be mentioned and Gore will emigrate.
11. We will proceed with nuclear space weapons.
12. A military draft will be imposed by the ovations on both sides.
12. In about 4 years Joe Lieberman converts into Evangelical Christianity and becomes a new GOP President.
13. WWIII will start after that.
And that's how the cookie crumbles. I would advise all the folks here to go spend an hour lying in a coffin to smell the stench of the dead children of ours and others. That stench will follow us all big time in the future.
I caught the last half of the Republicans, and I'm glad that Huckabee is out of the mainstream because I think he could connect with enough voters to beat Obama, his closing captured the dream of Reagan that Republicans hold.
I also want to assure others here that just because I think our weak dollar weakens our economy in noway does that mean I would follow Ron Pau back to the gold standard. McCain is only the frontrunner because that is a pretty weak bunch. he could still win
the best speech of the day was in New Orleans, I hope in parting Pat caught what it was John Edwards was about in running
but I will look for her report if she was at the Obama event today
I can hear it now. "We can't get out of Iraq. Ex-prez Bush won't let us." It's all being set up while we're being distracted and it really doesn't matter who's prez. The excuse will be there.
FYI...the FOIA is also being destroyed as we speak.
Amanda Lang: Stop Bush's Move to Commit to Permanent US Military Presence in Iraq
Excerpt from Lincoln Chaffee's new book: (hat tip to Daily Kos)
-----
Chafee remains contemptuous of Democrats who helped Bush to gin up this unnecessary invasion.
That includes New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, whom Chafee says put her presidential ambitions above standing up to Mr. Bush and the rush to war in Iraq.
“I find it surprising now, in 2008, how many Democrats are running for president after shirking their constitutional duty to check and balance this president,” writes Chafee...
“They argue that the president duped them into war, but getting duped does not exactly recommend their leadership. Helping a rogue president start an unnecessary war should be a career-ending lapse of judgment.”
------
I didn't know Pat was attending Obama's event. Can't wait to read about it!
7:29 PST
I keep forgetting to put my own time stamp on posts.
5. George Lakoff's case for Obama is strong.
Lakoff is probably America's word master.
Still, this is what Lakoff says, not necessarily what Obama himself says.
It's what Lakoff sees in his view of Obama's image.
That magic mirror that reflects what people wish for.
If the two candidates are so different in their governing views
why doesn't it show up in their almost identical policy statements.
Just as importantly, why doesn't it show up in their similar lists of
major campaign donors. The finance sector rules both there.
My vote consideration number one:
Which of the two is most likely to win in November,
if either of them then which wins with the biggest margin.
Assuming each will hold the Gore/Kerry States,
which of the Bush States will each one flip.
My vote consideration number two:
Which one gets the most done in the White House,
legislatively, tax/budget, health care, wages,
renewable energy, global labor and environmental
standards.
Which one buries the Republican Party for a generation
or two.
I won't argue that Obama's case for him being a progressive
is not stronger than Clinton's unmade case for her being
one. It is.
That doesn't mean his administration would be more
effective and productive than hers.
From the Gallup tracking poll ending last night:
"Barack Obama has now cut the gap with Hillary Clinton to 6 percentage points among Democrats nationally in the Gallup Poll Daily tracking three-day average, and interviewing conducted Tuesday night shows the gap between the two candidates is within a few points. Obama's position has been strengthening on a day-by-day basis. As recently as Jan. 18-20, Clinton led Obama by 20 points. Today's Gallup Poll Daily tracking is based on interviews conducted Jan. 27-29, all after Obama's overwhelming victory in South Carolina on Saturday. Two out of the three nights interviewing were conducted after the high-visibility endorsement of Obama by Sen. Edward Kennedy and his niece Caroline Kennedy.
"Clinton's lead in the three-day average is now 42% to Obama's 36%. John Edwards, who dropped out of the race Wednesday after Gallup conducted these interviews, ended his quest for the presidency with 12% support. Wednesday night's interviewing will reflect the distribution of the vote choice of former Edwards' supporters as well as the impact, if any, of Hillary Clinton's popular vote win in Florida on Tuesday."
Bill Nelson is at it again. He was with HIllary after the Florida primary, endorsing her, claiming Dean tried to silence our state, and then saying Hillary will fix that. It is a direct challenge, it appears to me....to the DNC.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1793
That rally here in Florida with Hillary and her minions....was a direct affront to the party.
Seashell here's another (very fictional, unfortunately) prediction :~)
...appointed Bill Clinton Secretary of State, and he got things straight with the Russians, who helped get things straight with the Iranians and the Chinese, who helped get things straight with North Korea. Congress repealed the Patriot Act, began the wind-down of the Iraq war, sent Clinton to the middle east to try and broker peace. Taxes were restored to Clinton days and the budget deficit was reduced. Medicare for all was passed by Congress and signed into law. Habeas Corpus was restored. The Fairness doctrine was restored by the FCC, and Net Neutrality was made federal law. Guantanamo was closed and all the detainees were given legal status in American courts and given defense attorneys. Clinton got tough with Israel and helped create the Republic of Palestine. Al Gore was appointed energy czar and got the Congress to institute massive tax credits for solar and wind energy for individual homes, which created a ton of jobs for Americans, and greatly reduced dependency on oil. America restored diplomatic relations with Cuba, and tourism to the beautiful island greatly raised their standard of living. America was starting to look like America again, the health care crisis was on the wane, and use of fossil fuels for energy was on the decline. Americans’ fear and depression were replaced with hope and renewed national pride.
The new Speaker of the House of Representatives was a veterinarian. Laws were passed making fighting animals such as dogs and cocks unlawful nationally and punishable by a minimum of ten years in federal prison. All non-purebred canines and felines were required to be spayed or neutered by the age of eight months or their owners risked a fine of one thousand dollars. Euthanasia in animal shelters became unnecessary and a premium price was placed on all ‘rescue’ animals because they became so scarce. The USDA hired 5000 new inspectors and they enforced steep fines on slaughterhouses where food animals like cows and chickens were not treated and killed humanely and with respect. The selling and eating of lobster, veal, and capon was outlawed. Maine lobstermen were retrained to work in the booming renewable energy field.
This is a little slice of a fictional opus I was inspired to write last summer. Sorry for the length :~)
I'm glad that Huckabee is out of the mainstream because I think he could connect with enough voters to beat Obama
Phillogical?
Do mean the GOP mainstream or the general one? Because if he's out of the general mainstraim it could be argued that it would hurt him in the election.

Perhaps if we developed a student option plan students could go out into the community to get high school credit for taking off campus courses. Students could also get high school credit for taking part in reality and existence debates that could be open to the public. Failing to do so will give the privatized education crowd the excuse to take the public education money so that they can teach that being Republican is God's will.
