Al Gore Has Endorsed Gay Marriage

Written by: Corbett K on Jan 24, 2008 11:36 AM

Former Vice President of the United States (and true victor in 2000) Al Gore continues to amaze me! Wow! He just released a strong video statement in favor of gay marriage.

This past Monday’s debate has been criticized as focusing too much on personality and not enough on issues. I tend to agree and Senator Edwards (for whom I proudly voted last week) deserves credit for driving the dialog back toward substance.

Despite his efforts, though, an issue which has received inadequate attention is gay marriage.

Problem solved! Former Vice President Al Gore has endorsed it!

As you will see in the video below, Mr. Gore’s position is clear and I share it.

The reason I was among the first congressional candidates to receive the national endorsement of Progressive Democrats of America earlier this month is my full and complete support for all 7 tenets of the Progressive Agenda. One of them calls for an end to discrimination of every kind.

Corbett KroehlerYou can help true Progressives go far this election cycle by voting for me in the Grassroots All-Star competition. It will take just a few minutes of your time and be of great assistance. Help me prove that the country is ready for gay marriage. Help me win.

Enjoy the video!

What kind of conversation is it, if you have one person, not posting ANYTHING of any importance.

Just cut and past someones comments or  any part of their comment, then critique it like a high school english teacher.

all that is missing is the red pen.

Let's some conversation going here. Not just stop, start, stop start.

How bout calling your senator and telling him or her to NOT VOTE for this Fisa bill.

call NOW. (0.00 / 0)  Contact your Senators! (0 / 0)
It's fast, easy and free!  Call your senators!  Stand up and be counted:

We should also focus on the 14 Senators who promised to help Sens. Dodd and Feingold last December, and who pushed for removal of retroactive immunity. Here are their fax and phone numbers:

This is a letter I just wrote to Howard, in his capacity as DNC Chair, via this site's link:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/566752872

Dear Chair Howard Dean, MD -

My wife and I wholeheartedly supported your campaign for President, starting in mid 2003, and were devastated with the results of the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary.  My wife and I both had seen you speak in Peterborough, NH in early Jan 2004 and were simply awed and uplifted with your words of "You have the power!".

Well, now my wife and I are supporting Barack Obama for president, very much along the same lines as to why we supported you four years earlier.

Unfortunately, just like then, there's the forces of status quo that are trying to strangle the forces of change.

We don't want to be devasted again and, thus, are asking you to please find a impartial way for yourself to send a public statement to both Hillary and Bill Clinton to strongly urge them to stop their unfair and unsubstantiated allegations against Barack Obama.

Thank you for whatever you can do (and give our regards to your wife, Dr. Judy Steinberg).

Sincerely and respectfully -

Olbermann Watch:  LOL

5: Dems fighting it out. Bear concerned that they're "collectively risking November". Dana Milbank, sans splashy suits, nattered. Surprise, surprise! Another blue-dress interview with John Edwards (D). Yes, this is the third one in as many months. (By all means, see The List!) Just by coincidence, Edwards has led the Daily Kos readership poll almost continuously since May of last year. So new Kos Kid Keith has kwite a bit of katching up to do. Edward R Olbermann peppered Silky with the kind of challenging, tough questions that Tim Russert only dreams of asking:

  • Do you agree the most important thing should be a Democratic victory in November?
  • Shouldn't all Democrats agree to support the eventual nominee? [Silky: Yes. Olby: "Amen!" No, we're not making that up. He really said that.]
  • How come the poor aren't getting enough attention?
  • How do you overcome the fact that you aren't getting enough votes?
  • What world does Bill O'Reilly live in? [O'Reilly attack #406]

I heard a clip from Obama last nite where basically he said that if he gets the nomination Hillary Clinton supporters will come over to his side.............and if she gets the nomination he wasnt sure that his supporters will come over to her side.....................this was on Olberman.

Now, thats a bit of a snarky remark and almost threatening imo.........it maybe true, but very poor choice of words.................wheres the unity Barrack?  Hmm?

Edwards was there to mop up and simply said that he would support the Democratic nominee..sound a bit like Howard folks? Edwards is appearing more and more Presidential everyday, and i dont even like him...............the other two look more and more like little kids.

I echo the comments in #5, regarding the Clinton's treatment of Obama. I've noticed a couple prominate people who were supporting Hillary and have publically switched to Obama in the past couple days. I would hope that list grows substancially in the coming days.

In thinking about the South Carolina primary this coming Saturday...many people have suggested that the so called Bradley effect came into play hurting Obama in New Hampshire and Nevada. I have a feeling that there may be a reverse Bradley effect in South Carolina; where many people, especially African Americans, are saying publically  they support Hillary, but when they actually vote, their pride in Obama will cause them to actually vote for him.

I have always been opposed to negative advertising in campaigns; but I have to say, I am so angry at the Clintons and their  "holier than thou" (Bill telling a reporter that she should be ashamed  of herself) that I feel like I'd like to knock his teeth out. I almost feel like bringing up Rove talking points about the Clintons, but I haven't got there yet. In the '90's I would defend the Clinton's from these attacks; but it appears I may have been wrong in doing so. It would embarrass me to have her as our nominee.

did they even hold hearings on the high gasoline prices while Exxon was raking in record profits?

the rebates don't even cover the amount of the rip off from big oil alone and we give them a tax break so they don't have to even pay taxes on their profits if they flip around a depreciation schdule?

Pelosi Capitulates Or Collaborates?

WASHINGTON — House leaders and the White House on Thursday reached a tentative agreement on an economic stimulus package of roughly $150 billion that would pay stipends of $300 to $1,200 per family and provide tax incentives for businesses to encourage spending.

A House aide close to the negotiations said that Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and the Republican leader, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, reached an “agreement in principle” after Ms. Pelosi agreed not to include two proposals that had broad support among Congressional Democrats: an extension of unemployment benefits and a temporary increase in food stamps.

In exchange for those concessions, the Bush administration and House Republicans agreed that the stipend of at least $300 would be paid to all workers receiving a paycheck, even those who did not earn enough to pay taxes last year.

“The vast majority of low-income people are going to get a minimum of $300,” said a White House official familiar with the outlines of the accord.

Pelosi sells out the true Democratic position in favor of giving low-income people, who need help the most, the least help. I'm not shocked nor even surprised.

New Democrat = Old Republican.

Sen. John Edwards
Green The Vote 2008

...Sen. John Edwards has made energy and the environment key features of his campaign, weaving substantive policies on these topics into platforms on everything from food and agriculture to jobs creation. He calls global warming "his highest environmental priority," and was the first candidate to call for an 80% reduction in carbon dioxide pollution below 1990 levels by 2050 — a goal endorsed by many climate scientists and environmental groups.

He has earned the endorsement of Friends of the Earth Action, the political arm of Friends of the Earth. ...

Edwards Statement On The Economic Stimulus Package Before CongressJan 24, 2008 12:41 PM Email a link to this articleEmail a link to this article  Printer-friendly version of this articlePrinter-friendly version of this article  View a list of the most popular articles on our siteView a list of the most popular articles on our site

Spartanburg, South Carolina – Today, Senator John Edwards released the following statement on the economic stimulus package before Congress:

"This is another example of Washington deserting working people and the middle class. They gave $70 billion of tax breaks that do nothing for those who've lost their jobs. It's a complete disconnect between what's happening in Washington and what I see happening here in South Carolina and across the country. We desperately need a modernization of the unemployment insurance law to cover more poor families and those who have lost their jobs. We also need to build an infrastructure for the clean energy economy that will create jobs and fight global warming.

"George Bush will sign whatever economic stimulus package that is sent to him by the Congress. The Congress needs to stand its ground. They need to insist on unemployment insurance modernization. Because otherwise we're going to have thousands and thousands of families across this country who don't get the unemployment help they need, and they lost their jobs through no fault of their own."

Grades are out on the economic stimulus plans:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/22/AR2008012202614.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

Whose Stimulus Makes the Grade?

By Ruth Marcus

Wednesday, January 23, 2008; Page A19

...

My grading

...

Barack Obama: A-minus. I criticized his previous tax plan, but Obama is at the head of the class with an intelligently designed, $120 billion stimulus plan. He would speed a $250 tax credit to most workers, followed by another $250, triggered automatically, if the economy continues on its sour path. Obama would direct a similar rebate to low- and middle-income seniors, who are also apt to spend and could get checks quickly. One demerit: Obama omits any increase in food stamp benefits, which Moody's estimates would have the greatest bang for the buck, $1.73 for every dollar spent.

John Edwards: B-minus. Edwards gets points for handing in his paper early -- in December, he issued a $25 billion stimulus proposal (plus $75 billion more if needed), including important help to states to avoid cutting Medicaid rolls. But like Hillary Clinton (see below), he would spend too much money on programs -- investing in "green collar" jobs, for instance -- with too long a lag time to make them an effective stimulus. Edwards's grade goes down because he also hasn't explained how the $75 billion would be spent.

Hillary Clinton: C-plus. Clinton, too, raised the issue early, then turned in a faulty first draft with a $70 billion stimulus plan that didn't provide much immediate stimulation. It included a $25 billion increase in the program to help low-income Americans with heating costs -- an excessive amount (the current program is under $3 billion) that probably wouldn't kick in until next winter. Even worse was her housing plan, including a five-year freeze on subprime mortgage rates that could produce higher interest rates and reduce liquidity.

Four days later, Clinton said she would immediately implement a $40 billion tax rebate plan she had put in reserve in her first draft. Fine, but overall, the Obama plan devotes a far greater percentage to spending that is more likely to jump-start the economy.

Nothing contradictory about pointing out that it makes more sense to support the nonviable candidate whose record at least matches his rheoric in Kucinich.

What's contradictory is calling Edwards the "agent of change" when his record is of support for the worst of Bush's agenda.

Feingold speaking on Senate Floor on FISA for those interested in substance, more than idle banter.

Too bad he didn't run for President.
