Draft Gore Launches TV Ads on CNN and in New Hampshire
OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The movement to draft Gore for President continues to gain momentum as Draft Gore is about to launch its first round of television advertising on Friday.
Funded entirely by contributions from grassroots supporters, the 30-second spot features clips from speeches in which Gore takes an early stand against the war in Iraq and exhorts Americans to take back their government and restore Constitutional authority. "I believe our success in defending ourselves depends precisely on not giving up what we stand for," Gore says in one of the clips.
The ad will run for five days on CNN news shows beginning Nov. 2 and for three days on New Hampshire's WMUR station. "Imagine a renewed world," the ad urges Americans. "Imagine an end to the war in Iraq. Imagine Al Gore as President." The ad concludes with an appeal to supporters to sign the petition at Draftgore.com.
Draft Gore's TV commercial follows on the heels of a full-page ad the group ran in the New York Times earlier this month. The ad, devised in the form of an open letter to Gore, received national and international attention just two days before the former vice president was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
"Al Gore still has time to jump into this race," said Draft Gore chair Monica Friedlander. "He maintains a massive base of support, as evidenced by recent polls and the unprecedented strength of this truly grassroots movement that's sweeping the country unlike anything we have seen in recent political history."
A CBS News poll released last week shows the undeclared Gore running a strong second at 32 percent among Democratic voters nationwide, only five points behind presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton. Moreover, Gore polls much better than Clinton against Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani, 52 percent to 46 percent, compared to Clinton's 49 to 47 percent, according to a poll released by CNN on Oct. 21.
Draft Gore's online petition has garnered nearly a quarter-million signatures over the past year, despite having received little publicity until recent weeks. The petition more than doubled in size since July. Draft Gore also ran a series of radio ads in targeted areas between June and October.
"Americans are calling Gore back to service at a time of grave national and international crises," Friedlander said. "Draft Gore is merely giving a voice to this demand."
Draft Gore is a political action committee promoting a Gore candidacy in 2008. The PAC is not affiliated with Vice President Gore's office. For more information, see http://www.draftgore.com/.

It's not about baking cookies, Mrs. Clinton by Monica Smith
Thursday, 11/01/07 @ 6:20 am.
....And, to be quite blunt, it's not about Mrs. Clinton or any other of the Democrats. Elections are about the voters; it's their agenda to define. After that, the only question is who's ready to spend the blood and guts and sweat to clean up this ungodly mess.
------------
Nice post Monica!
I would probably add just one more question for her (and for you too..., lol).
IF elections "are about the voters" then WHY NOT very same voters but "someone else" (the POTUS!?) should have been "ready to spend the blood and guts and sweat to clean up this ungodly mess"?
(Isn't that TOO MUCH GUTS and BLOOD TO HAVE for one person..., lol?)
Vote for your candidate right now and let your voice be heard!

change politics forever
for those who aren't ready to back Al Gore, yet argue that they want to back 'a winner', from the press release above:
A CBS News poll released last week shows the undeclared Gore running a strong second at 32 percent among Democratic voters nationwide, only five points behind presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton. Moreover, Gore polls much better than Clinton against Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani, 52 percent to 46 percent, compared to Clinton's 49 to 47 percent, according to a poll released by CNN on Oct. 21.
woot! America knows what's good for this country! now is the time and Al is the man! do it for us, Al. do it for your country. you KNOW what will happen if Hillary becomes POTUS - the DLC will do their utmost to continue the culture of corporate corruption and to trample the grassroots, the people they supposedly represent.
RUN, AL, RUN! we need real leadership in the White House!
Linda 2, re: discipline - do you mind if I share this? well said! I do believe there are many current members of the dlc who are appalled as they discover the reality of that's group's goals, yet do not have the spines to quit the grouop or stand agaist them. they may think they need their support to win elections, but if they're paying attention they will realize that paradigm has changed. grow a spine democrats - throw off the smothering blanket of the dlc! if you stand strong for real progressive politics, the people will support you.

.....The corporations are American institutions and it's not really their fault that they've been misused to shield government wrong-doing.
------------
The Corporations are American Government's institutions.
The Government is American Corporations' institution.
It is American People's fault that they allowed them to become the one and the same.
Romney has ads up attacking giving illegal aliens drivers liscences.
Democrats should have taken that issue off the table; it is ready made for the divisive hate politics Republicans are so good at
Democrats should never take the right thing to do off the table. When they do they might as well be Republicans. I saw Gov. Spitzer explaining and defending the driver licence policy quite sensibly yesterday. When Democrats run away from Republicans on one issue, they just get chased to a new one that they feel the need to run from. If they stop running and stand their ground, voters will reward Democrats.
Speaking of which, Pelosi and the Dems have gone out of their way to distance and denounce Code Pink and MoveOn, but there was Bush yesterday linking them. DCDems need to learn that they will be attacked even when they abandon those whom they should consider allies and supporters -- and therefor stick with them.

...the problem is that the corporations have been enabled by the Congress. I am not sure that bashing corporations is going to give any President traction with Congress. Can Edwards change the culture of Congress? I am not keen on people promising to do things that they can't accomplish...
It's a shell game. Everybody's promising to do something that someone else is responsible for.
The pharmaceutical companies are over-charging because they operate in a monopoly environment. Who granted them that? Who's maintaining that? Relatively speaking, banking has actually been opened up to competition and there are regulations with which they are supposed to comply.
If the executive agencies are not conducting reviews and bringing enforcement actions, then whose fault is that?
----------
!!!
Can one conduct its OWN review..., lol?
Who's fault? Again, it is OURS, American People fault, NO ONE else's.
WE allowed it to happen!

9. Absolutely. And if they don't know this, they shouldn't be where they are!
So sad...so quick are our Representatives to put down the groups most representative of the peoople and their core beliefs and principles, but no way would they put down select groups that hurt our core principles and values dominated by the hurtful and divisive wealthy few like AIPAC and DLC.
5 Million Jeno's Pizza being recalled.
9 folks are suffering kidney failure.
I agree with Phil about the dems needing to take the driver's lic. issue off the table, so the republicans can't use it. I think that's why Hillary didn't want to ans. it directly in the debate & she got herself in a mess.
About the comcast thing, it's like so many things, you don't want someone watching the hen house if they want what's in the hen house themselves.
And why do you think we have nothing but recall after recall. Did we have this happening over & over 7,8, 10 yrs ago? Too much is being made in other countries & just brought in here for our companies to distribute. Have you tasted a butterfinger lately? They're lousy! Used to be fantastic. If you read Nestle's info on the pkg., they are distributed in this country, not made in this country. Fig newton's? They taste terrible, used to be great. They're made elsewhere now,too. It's all about power & money. Did you see that Mattel executive apologizing to China? Imagine, telling them how sorry they are because of the recall on the toys China made? It's disgusting... We need someone somewhere in power who gives a damn about we the people!
Anyone know anyone?
Say what you want about Republicans, but they aren't stupid enough to denounce those they count on for support -- regardless of the outrages they committ.
And say what you want about Democrats, they aren't smart enough to denounce Republicans for what their supporters do.
It's a one way street with Democrats allowing themselves to be rolled down it like tumbleweeds.
Wow!
Morning folks.
Run, Al, Run!
I agree with Phil about the dems needing to take the driver's lic. issue off the table, so the republicans can't use it.
Maybe the wizard can help?

I have to clear up what I meant, when they had enough Republicans to get to 60 votes and a President that would have signed the Kennedy Bill, they should have passed it and not let Trancredo and Dobbs set the agenda, take it off the desk (instead of the table).
Deal with it, pass it.
and the pure politics of it might have been mixed, but it is the kind of issue rovian politicians can use as a wedge
Republicans thrive on division and hate.
We have made it an issue for a Governor because the Senate failed to act.
the danger of a National ID is that it gives police power probable cause to simply ask "let me see your papers" at anytime, but we have to overcome the hurdle of privacy/identity to go to a National Health Care card, and it would allow for walk-in same day registration and voting
we need a carefully crafted Privacy Amendment to the Constitution
and an immigration policy based on reality on the ground
sitka, nope, I think this is a job for the one and only Goracle!

21 Phil I agree with what you've said about passing the immigration bill. I don't like a nat. ID card for the very reasons you mention. We have a right to our privacy & at the same time we need to know who's in the country & where they are.
Vice President Al Gore will be on the Jay Leno show next Thursday, 11/8.
why do we need to know who's in the country and where they are? why do you need to know where i am?
hey, suzanne. i contacted the draft gore people, they emailed me a hello, and i haven't heard from them since. i replied to them, but they haven't answered? hints?
I don't see how you have Universal National Health care without a card.
who controls the files?
5 WEEKENDS LEFT to get our signatures done in California to get his name placed on the primary ballot,
We're doing okay in L.A. County and the Bay Area, but San Diego needs help because of the fire evacuations. Also, Congressional districts 2, 20, 21, 25 and 49. Please be in touch with california4gore2008.org if you can assist. Thanks a lot.
mprov - oh.my.gosh. Please email Roy Gayhart (head honcho):
Tell him Suzanne sent you! We just had a big teleconference last night with all the district coordinators, so you'll be a real breath of fresh air.
28 mprov I don't care where you are or aren't. What I'm referring to is for example, when someone comes in this country legally with a visa for whatever reason, this country has no idea where they really go or how to locate them when their visa runs out & they continue to stay in this country. That is what was the situation with the 911 hijackers. They were here legally, but had continued to stay etc. That's just one example. And we should have passed an immigration bill that allowed us to know who's really here working etc. If people come here to work & do jobs that need to be done, what's wrong with that? But don't we need to know it?
I don't see how you have Universal National Health care without a card.
who controls the files?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't know how it could be done without a card, either. And, we really need the national health care.
Here, here!
Stand up and shout!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMd8-wdVa...
the problem is that the current thinking allows "them" to track me as well as any "illegal." to know who is here is to know everyone who is here. why should i have to prove that i'm here legally. and, i say again that its no one's business where i am at any time.
30 & 35. we already have that, its called an SSN.
so we are back to the issue of driving
Equine tracking http://www.freepatentsonline.com/2003001...
there's also bio-meteric data id. oooo, scary big brother. it would eliminate the need for a "card." if the privacy act hadn't been gutted, the safe guards would be in place. i.e., provide a software lock, controlled by the individual, with a power of attorney in case of incapacity, and control the individual file for id and/or medical purposes.
I have plenty of issues with positions of Hillary's, confusion about drivers liscence is par if you give the subject serious thought, so I don't think she got it "wrong" in the debate. What it did was give Romney a chance to unload on "illegals" with a new ad while taking a swipe at Hillar,y we are seeing in Iowa. Republicans can't run on the war or the economy or health care so they are cornered rats and dangerous.
Microchip Your Pet http://www.whittlesea.vic.gov.au/content...
i just saw the new gore ad on cnn. pretty good.
did that clear up my meaning sitka?
That is a horse of a different color.
The immigration bill should be scrapped, the best reason being it's just a corporate slave labor provider.
mprov I understand your reaction to id card. I don't even give my soc sec # out when they want it. And, boy, do they get nasty about that! I don't even have it on my dr's lic.
Immigration is the biggest issue Republicans have (pretty desperate aren't they?)and it can be framed as a big brother issue to peel off their libertarian fringe if the ID issue is correctly addressed rather than their version.
anyway just sharing the back and forth here in Iowa for the benefit of you lucky people who have to look for politics instead of having it beat over your head all day
pretty intense here right now
cnn says 17% less foreign visitors to us since 9-11. reason, shabby welcome.
What it did was give Romney a chance to unload on "illegals"
He didn't need a "chance."
The point is, Dems can't prevent Reeps from scurrilous smears by keeping silent on core issues or denouncing their own supporters.
Could hillary have answered better? Yes. She should have done as Gov. Spitzer does and explain in one short paragraph that issuing (non-federal ID) driver's licences enhances security by getting people registered and makes the roads safer. She should have also pointed out that it is in line with recommendations by Chertoff and HSD, and that 7 states have already done it.
Now how hard was that to explain?
gore just hit 30k votes, slightly gaining on dennis...
Just announced:.....
A privileged res. will be brought to the floor of the house to impeach Cheney NEXT WEEK by Dennis Kucinich. This will require an up or down vote. Ed Schultz just received the news over the wires. And, it really stinks when someone from, like Tunisia, a father who has a family there and has two sons here, keeps paying about $165.00 to apply for a visa and keeps getting rejected. Great money making scheme.
Former president discusses UFO experience
Watch President Carter's interview on CNN's American Morning Friday.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich caused heads to turn earlier this week when he acknowledged he once saw a UFO.
But if elected to the White House, Kucinich wouldn't be the first president to have such an encounter.
"When I was back as a peanut farmer in southwest Georgia, I and about 25 others saw something in the air that changed colors and was round and came and left," former President Jimmy Carter said in an interview with CNN’s John Roberts on American Morning. "We couldn't figure out what it was."
But while he couldn't identify the object, Carter said he doesn't think it was space aliens.
"It was unidentified as far as we were concerned, but I think it's impossible in my opinion, some people disagree, to have space people from other planets or other stars to come to us — I don't think that's possible," he said.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/200...
Regardless of if you believe them or not. I thought it was wrong for DK to have dragged someone else in to his situation and argument. Stand on his own, don't drag someone else in to his situation when they can't speak for themselves.
Now he is.....
63. Great news ...I'm on hold on my last call...Specter.
