Dean's mistake was being the first to run an attack ad, had he been responding things would have been different.
--------

Well, after that happened Demos did start "responding things" primarily on everything Reps do..and what? They started to loose uninterruptedly till 2004 election.

If there were mistakes on Dean's part back then only because he did not diversified and did not made those "attack adds" more comprehensible for American people, imo. In general one can't win sitting in defense trenches (one more argument, btw, why Bush&Co were wining for so long).

Robert Gibbs is a creepy weasel with a disturbing legacy.  I'd like to see him canned from Obama's campaign, the sooner the better.

Also, I have regarded Edwards anti-poverty crusade in the past as all fluff and no stuff, but I understand he has championed a fairly comprehensive tuition grant program that represents, to me, a real concrete proposal against economic stratification in the U.S.   I think he deserves credit for it.

Welcome back, Nixon! (+)
by: Rob
Thu Jul 05, 2007 at 13:42:24 PM EDT
If you thought the past several years were an awful lot like the Nixon years, you ain't seen nothing yet:
The day before Senate Watergate Committee minority counsel Fred Thompson made the inquiry that launched him into the national spotlight -- asking an aide to President Nixon whether there was a White House taping system -- he telephoned Nixon's lawyer.
Thompson tipped off the White House that the committee knew about the taping system and would be making the information public. In his all-but-forgotten Watergate memoir, "At That Point in Time," Thompson said he acted with "no authority" in divulging the committee's knowledge of the tapes, which provided the evidence that led to Nixon's resignation. It was one of many Thompson leaks to the Nixon team, according to a former investigator for Democrats on the committee, Scott Armstrong , who remains upset at Thompson's actions.

"Thompson was a mole for the White House," Armstrong said in an interview. "Fred was working hammer and tong to defeat the investigation of finding out what happened to authorize Watergate and find out what the role of the president was."

As Josh Marshall notes, "[n]o wonder the Bushies are so into him."

what a guy. another putz and treasonous person we don't need.

Kudos to Al for everything he's done to transcend borders, barriers to get the message of global warming onto the front burner of every citizen's mind in the world.  Even some of the poorest of the poor are starting to get news of how the environment and human interaction with it, is a leading cause to drought, poverty, etc.

That's no easy feat and it takes a COOL head like AL's to stay focused on that message.

I couldn't disagree more. The Republicans would do themselves a favor by regrouping under some other banner and with new leaders without Fascist dreams for America.

I couldn't agree more.

Yes, "The Republicans would"...BUT THEY WON'T.
And they WON'T because, as they already proved, "fascist dreams for America" (in form of PNAC) CAN STILL WORK!

Don't blame Republicans for that fact, blame Democrats who essentially HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER to Americans INSTEAD!

State vaccination rule sought
Bills seek to give public health officials, not lawmakers or parents, power to call the shots.

By Dorsey Griffith - Bee Medical Writer
Published 6:42 am PDT Tuesday, July 3, 2007

A proposal to allow state public health officials to mandate new vaccines for children without legislative tinkering is picking up steam among California lawmakers.

Assembly Bill 16, the bill that originally would have required the cervical cancer vaccine for girls, now addresses how vaccines are included on the state's list of required childhood immunizations, authorizing the state public health officer to make the final call. The bill is being touted by supporters as an effort to strip politics from a process that has long been subject to legislative debate.

"The way we determine what immunizations we will require of children is a mess," said Teresa Stark, a lobbyist for the California Medical Association. "We want the decisions to be made based on science and what's best for the public health."

Opponents counter that the bill's new version would rubber-stamp potentially controversial immunizations such as the vaccine against the cancer-causing human papillomavirus.

"We opposed the original bill because of the mandate," said Karen England, executive director of the Capitol Resource Institute, a conservative parental rights advocacy organization. "This is even worse, because it turns the power over to public health officials with no recourse for the people to be heard."

AB 16, by Ed Hernandez, D-West Covina, is one of three immunization bills currently under consideration. SB 676 by Mark Ridley-Thomas, D-Los Angeles, would mandate whooping cough booster shots, and SB 533 by Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, would require pneumococcus vaccine for children entering...

Rick Rollens of Granite Bay believes his 16-year-old son, Russell, is autistic because of routine childhood vaccinations, and has since championed efforts to investigate possible causes of neurodevelopmental disorders, including childhood immunizations.

Although no definitive link has been established between childhood vaccines and the jump in autism rates, Rollens and many others worry that children are exposed to too many vaccines too soon, and that any law to remove public debate from the decision-making process is dangerous.

"It becomes a situation totally controlled by the public health community, which to date has not found a vaccine they can't love," Rollens said. "With 300 new vaccines in development for such non-life-threatening conditions such as diarrhea, stomach ulcers and mononucleosis, it will be a public health disaster."....

None that I know of other than that a lot of money flowed into it from Missouri.  The guy who managed the Swift-boaters and sold the Ohio Secretary of State his unique computer operating system, William E. Franke, is also from Missouri.

Do you know that there's a World Trade Center in St. Louis and that there's a close link with traders in VietNam and Laos and other countries in the orient and that John Kerry's brother's interests in trade with VietNam may well have been perceived as competitive with the interests of the St. Louis crowd?

The extent to which our free enterprise system has become dependent on government support and assistance is really deplorable.  I'm quite content to have our markets protected from unscrupulous operators by the agents of government; I'm not keen on having unscrupulous operators backed up by our military forces.  The latter has become the predominant pattern.

Can you imagine some Bushie riding a recumbent bike to work (if they still have a job) that is.....I dont think most here are ready for change and commitment, perhaps Im wrong......the rich wont give up their lifestyles too.......so it crosses all socio economic bariers.............

Hey Mike. We can hope they will. The more the merrier. But too, it's a collective effort. Some will always do more, maybe because they want to, know too, have the ability to and can. Hopefully if the others don't or can't make the changes they should be able to, they will speak up that our government needs to act. And then together, just maybe, we can do something about it.

Still, our policies and laws need to exist in the end, to make the real changes that will impact us all and hopefully those others will voice that as well.

Yes, Al Gore is amazing and still, I hope when his commitments are accomplished, he will lead us to the better place forward we should be.

Barrington couple to serve as co-chairs for Dodd campaign in Strafford County document.title = unescape("Barrington%20couple%20to%20serve%20as%20co-chairs%20for%20Dodd%20campaign%20in%20Strafford%20County") + " - Fosters";
By AMANDA DUMOND
Democrat Staff Writer
adumond@fosters.com

BARRINGTON — A local couple will serve as Strafford County co-chairs for Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd's presidential campaign.

Gail and Mark Mitchell, who recently announced their support for Dodd and hosted a house party for him at their home, will use grassroots techniques they have used for past campaigns. That will include knocking on neighbors' doors, talking to friends and other political activists and making numerous phone calls.

The Mitchells also were some of U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter's earliest supporters, and they worked tirelessly for her campaign, Bryan Deangelis, Dodd's New Hampshire press secretary said.

"They are two very effective Democrat activists," Deangelis added. "They've done a lot of work for Democrats in Strafford County, and the campaign thought they'd be an asset in that county."

Gail said she and her husband, who are retired but run a business from their home, carefully considered candidates they viewed as major contenders for the presidency, including McCain, Obama and Dodd.

"We took a long time to select him (Dodd), but he's got integrity and boldness and has served twenty-six years in the Senate," she added.

The Mitchells also were drawn to his support of education, veterans and unions and his desire to bring current soldiers home from Iraq. Most of all, Gail said she and Mark support Dodd because he is a politician of action. His supporters, she added, have a hard time getting him to campaign more because he is focused on passing legislation in the U.S. Senate.

"He also breaks from the pack when he feels strongly about an issue," Gail also said.

While Gail noted she nearly burned out working on the Carol Shea-Porter campaign, she is excited about the prospect of supporting Dodd in his campaign.

"It's going to be nuts," she added. "But I wish that everyone will judge the candidates for who they really are and choose who they think is best (for president)."

She added that New Hampshire residents have a greater opportunity of really getting to know presidential candidates because of the state's first primary in the nation tradition.

Mark, a former member of the state police, deferred to his wife when asked about their cochairmanship. They have two daughters and one granddaughter.

Tom, good question. We need to ask questions. We are not sheep or lemmings. We the people do not have to be a member of something like a football game looking for a winner or loser. But many feel the dire need to have a job to survive and will sell out to survive. It is sad. I will survive, and fight for all. Look what Kate O'Conner did after the Dean campaign.  Sad.

Though I like Dodd, the interviews I have seen him on show his tendency to claim all the credit in circumstances and ignore completely any other candidates. It's a bit of a turnoff for me.

When asked who he would endorse for president, Al Gore said he wasn't ready to endorse.

First, I think the right wing media wants to push him into endorsing and out of running for prez.

What a great day if Al Gore would pull a Cheney and endorse himself for president.

The Anthrax scare was never solved.  Will they plead the 5th on that for national security?

We're being prepared for staying beyond Sept as per an interview on CNN, despite what Patreaus says.  Apparently,  now things are going well.  Have you noticed that the CMWs are not longer telling us much, if anything, about Iraq or the deaths of our soldiers?

I'm off to call critters locally.  I seem to be in a perpetual state of pissed off but it's not interferring with eating or sleeping. :-)
