Favorite Quote:
"We can have justice whenever those who have not been injured by injustice are as outraged by it as those who have been."---Solon (595 B.C.)
"Honesty is the first chapter of the book of wisdom."---Thomas Jefferson
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience by which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." ---Eleanor Roosevelt
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."---Aesop (620 BC - 560 BC)
"You don't get a free pass. Our object was not to get you into power because we are Democrats - our object was to get you into power so you actually do something. And if you don't, we are not going to stand up and keep you. We want change. It wasn't about the Democratic Party. It was about the country." ---DNC Chair, Gov. Howard Dean, MD (A warning delivered to the newly elected Democratic majority in Washington during a speech given before a Christian evangelical audience at Eastern University in St. Davids, PA on April 7, 2007)
"So much attention is paid to the aggressive sins, such as violence and cruelty and greed with all their tragic effects, that too little attention is paid to the passive sins, such as apathy and laziness, which in the long run can have a more devastating effect." ---Eleanor Roosevelt (American United Nations Diplomat, Humanitarian and First Lady (1933-45), wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd US president. 1884-1962)
"Necessity, who is the mother of invention." ---Plato (The Republic, Greek author & philosopher in Athens 427 BC - 347 BC)
"Democracy is an infinitely including spirit. We have an instinct for democracy because we have an instinct for wholeness; we get wholeness only through reciprocal relations, through infinitely expanding reciprocal relations. Democracy is really neither extending nor including merely, but creating wholes."---Mary Parker Follett 1868-1933, "The New State", 1918
"It is my greatest hope that those who read this book will choose to become a part of a new movement to rekindle the true spirit of America." ---exerpt from "The Assault on Reason" by Al Gore
"...all political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority and instituted for their benefit; and that they have _at all times_ an undeniable and indefeasible right to _alter their form of government_ in such a manner as they may think expedient. Under that gospel, the citizen who thinks he sees that the commonwealth's political clothes are worn out, and yet holds his peace and does not agitate for a new suit, is disloyal; he is a traitor." --- excerpt from "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ---Abraham Lincoln
"Ye see what care the sparrows take of one another, and how happy they are to share their goods. And yet we men do not approve; nay, if we see a man sharing his goods with other men, we call it wastefulness, extravagance, and by such names, and dub the men to whom he gives a share, fawners and parasites. What then is left to us except to shut us up at home like fattening birds, and gorge our bellies in the dark until we burst with fat"(iv 3)---Apollonius of Tyana (2-c.98 CE)
"It's curious that no allegedly Christian nation has adopted The Golden Rule as a basis for foreign policy." ---Carl Sagan (1934-1996) American astronomer and astrobiologist
"Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men." ---Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you'll be criticized anyway.
You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't."--- Eleanor Roosevelt
"My heart is open to all the winds. Wherever God's caravans turn, the religion of love shall be my religion. And my faith."---Aribi, 13th Century Sufi traveler and mystic
"The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls."---Elizabeth Cady Stanton
"You can safely assume that you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do."---Anne Lamott an American author
"Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant." ---Horace (65 – 8 BC) Roman Poet
"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."---Ralph Waldo Emerson
About Me:
I'm a homemaker living in the Sierra foothills of Eastern Madera County near Yosemite National Park's Southern gate. In 2003 I became very active in Central California's Democratic Party progressive grassroots. I'm a Local DFA Group Organizer and a DFA-Link Host. In 2004 I was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees for the "Democrats In Action!" Grassroots Service Office located in Fresno. In January '05 I was elected to serve as Chair for Madera County Democratic Central Committee & as the Executive Board Representative for 25th Assembly District Democratic Committee to the California Democratic Party. In January '07 I was re-elected to serve as Chair for Madera County Democratic Central Committee & as a Delegate representing the 25th Assembly District Democratic Committee to the California Democratic State Central Committee.
I just want my country back.
